I saw Pepper's Ghost and Styx last night. I was able to get front and center for Pepper's Ghost. They put on a great show with lots of energy. Good songs with great guitar work, some vocal harmonies and even an organ jam Tom Sholz would be proud of. I met them after the show and had them sign my CD. Very nice guys extremely friendly and conversational. I also told them I heard about them on Rock n Roll Universe. Styx rocked Wow! they still bring it!! All the hits and a couple of the newer ones. The place was freakin packed. I've never been to a concert that was that crowded. It was at a free stage at Summerfest and it was definitely a popular one. The Allman brothers where playing at the same time at the amphitheater but Styx was sill able to draw a massive crowd. I had a pretty good spot until about half way through I went for a beer and could get no where neare where I was. During introductions about a quarter of the crowed booed when the DeYoung replacement was introduced. On the way out I stopped at another stage and listend to Seether for awhile. I think they're what some of you would call a "cookie monster" group. They weren't too bad but had that cookie monster sound. .... Whitesnake Friday.

Styx rocked Wow! they still bring it!! All the hits and a couple of the newer ones. I heard they deleted ALL ballads from their set list, so it just totally rocks. Not a bad idea.

What's this I heard about Gowen (DDY's replacement) getting boo'd by 1/4 of the crowd??? It shows a sad lack of class, if you ask me. If people prefer DDY, that's fine...a lot of people do. But, to go to a Styx show and boo his so-called "replacement" is stupid. If you want to go see Dennis DeYoung, I think he's doing some Broadway musical or something. He hasn't been a member of the band Styx for quite some time.

I agree it does show lack of class. The only people I boo vigorously are the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings. It may not have been a quarter but there was A good number. This was a free show so a lot of people are casual fans not real Styx fans and drunk off their ass. Before the show I started a few conversations with people and I was surprised buy how little people knew. I'm hardly a Styx expert but most of the people I talked to didn't even know Tommy Shaw, Dennis DeYoung or Gowan. I couldn't remember Gowans's name when writing this thread. One guy I talked to said he just wanted some good rock and didn't care what they played he just wanted to hear Renegade, that Roboto song and "Time". I said he may have to go to London to hear someone play Time and he just looked at me and says uh yeah. They never did play that Roboto song but they did play Renegade and Too Much Time On My Hands. One thing the concert made me realize is that no matter if it's Gowan or DeYoung I need more Styx than just a greatest hits.
