Ok. Ok, ok...
I've been diggin' on -UFO- for just about forever.
Killer, kick-ass, raw and at the same time, tasteful, "in a greater league" they are. (imo)
So I am a fan.
In the past, they did kind of lose me with "Mechanix". It was kind of weak. I do own their American releases starting with "Phenomenon" thru "Mechanix" and "Making Contact". "Obsession, "Force It", "No Heavy Petting", "Lights Out", "No Place to Run", and "The Wild, Willing and the Innocent" and those have been enough to cruise through the years with. Truly a ton of great-fantastic rock on all of those.
"You Are Here" is the latest. Brand spanking new, with new players. World class players infused into the line-up: Jason Bonham-Drums and Vinnie Moore-Lead Guitar...
Admittedly Phil Mogg (Lead Singer-common denominator) is probably the weakest link in the musical sense, although he is the chief wordsmith/writer. It's his singing style that has been aging and kind of pissing me off. But on "You Are Here" there's a great feel produced by all these factors.
It did have to grow on me, but I am loving this new -UFO- completely.
Vinnie Moore's riffs are continually resurfacing in my minds ear over and over. Sooo great.
I have been especially enjoying, "Wild One" and the following track, "Give It Up", super excellent rock, with big, juicy hooks. I love those real loud. Also on the disk is a rockin' ballad that is one of the most excellent rock-n-roll compositions I've heard in quite some time, "Slipping Away". It's sad, beautiful, musically huge, and features punctuating lead guitar licks that just put it over-the-top. This entire release is stunning work by the band that I've been digging from way back from the beginning of high school. It's great to hear quality rock that just happens to be from "my" -UFO-!
A GREAT WAY TO RECHARGE MY ENTHUSIASM FOR A MAJORLY UNDERRATED HARD-ROCK BAND!
I love -UFO-, give 'em a chance, you will too...
