Among the CD's of the collection I annexed last Spring are a whole slew of Pearl Jam Cd's. I didn't like Pearl Jam back in the day and never wasted my money on their music. However, having gotten a bunch of their CDs for free, I figure they deserve a chance with a good long objective listen. As I write this, I'm listening to "Vs" which I think was the album that put them on the musical map. I'm sorry, it's fucking garbage. "Glorified G" is actually pretty good. There are a few other songs that range from listenable to slightly enjoyable, but it's mostly crap noise. Can Eddie Vedder sing? Sure can. He's got a very limited range, but he works it well and has a very powerful voice. The songs just aren't there though. Forgettable chord progressions and riffs. No classic guitar leads. No real vocal or lyrical hooks. Just pure shit! I know there are millions of people out there who disagree with this assessment and I know Mainstream Rock radio saturated the airwaves with Pearl Jam music in the 1990's, but l have to wonder which came first :/.

Fact-checking myself here: "Vs" was NOT the album that put Pearl Jam on the musical map. That album would be "Ten". Not that I really care that one sucks too!
