Pat Benatar- Should be in already. No-brainer.
Doobie Brothers- Again, shoulda been in already, it's a crime that it's taking so long.
Dave Matthews Band- Probably belong. They had a good run in the 1990's and are still a concert draw and helped usher in the return of the Jam bands-era. I think they belong, but should wait their turn. A lot of good, deserving artists from the '70's and '80's should be inducted first.
Soundgarden- Also, not a fan, but there probably should be a place for these guy in the Hall..... someday. Like Dave Matthews Band, Soundgarden should wait their turn
Whitney Houston- I get it that this is not really the "Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame" but rather a "Pop Music Hall Of Fame", so, with that in mind, yeah she probably belongs.
Notorious BIG- I don't know. Whitney Houston is pushing my limits of non Rock toleration, Notorious BIG, kinda crosses the line. Would definitely belong in a Rap hall Of Fame, Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame? Again, there are more deserving artists, but, I'll tell you what: in the spirit of diversity of music, if Garth Brooks gets in, I'll be ok with Notorious BIG.
MC5- I'm not feeling it. I understand the "influence" argument, but these guys bring nothing to the table as far as album sales, general popularity and longevity. I get the push for them to be in, but I don't think they are deserving.
T. Rex- Kinda the same as MC5: I get the push for them and they were a major influence on the Glam scene. They bring a little bit more to the table as far as album sales and charting singles, but not much. I like T. Rex and wouldn't mind them being in, but I think there are more deserving acts from the 1970's sitting on the bench.
Thin Lizzy- Same. The big argument for them is their influence, which is undeniable. Don't know that they quite have the numbers to get in. I like 'em a lot though. If we're going soley on influence, they definitely are deserving, but their album sales, charting singles and lasting appeal is on par or slightly less than Molly Hatchet or Marshall Tucker Band. Do either of those bands belong?
Rufus and Chaka Kahn- No, not really.
Motorhead- Again, are we gonna throw out the fact that Motorhead doesn't have a single Gold or Platinum album to their name and just go with, "well, they were a huge influence to Metal bands"? I don't know. This is the problem I have with the Hall Of Fame: they pretty much choose the artists and THEN decide the criteria. Is the criteria influence, ground-breaking, popularity, longevity or all of the above? I kinda look for artists who are household names with household name songs. Maybe everyone has heard of Motorhead, but how many know any song of their beyond "Ace Of Spades"? And how many people actually like "Ace Of Spades"? Maybe it's enough, I dunno. I see Motorhead having two things going for them: Their influence and the fact that they were around forever. Not enough IMO.
Depeche Mode-Don't like them, but they probably belong. Can't argue with their numbers or influence.
Kraftwerk-Please, If they get in, everyone should get in.
Nine Inch Nails- Hate 'em, but they may be deserving. Again, someday. Certainly not ahead of Bad Company
Todd Rundgren- Yeah, he probably should've been in already too.
What do you think?
