I know people will say they still like music, but do they really dig music the way they used to? Or is it just enjoyable background noise to most people? I went looking for a new home stereo last fall and.... forget it. I bought one that sounds ok, but the speakers are tiny and it doesn't really crank like my old stereos used to. Really didn't even see any better options when I was shopping either. For Christmas I got a dewalt job boombox. Same thing: It sounds ok, but my old cassette boomboxes from the '80's and '90's would blow the roofs off of our barns at the farm, this thing, you can barely hear in the barn unless you're standing directly in front of it. Earbuds and headphones suck these days too. People blame mp3's and digital music for the shitty sound, I think it's the shitty systems and speakers we play them on. For example: several years ago, I painted a few rooms in my grandparents' house for them. They had an old 1970's-era record player/8-track stereo system with an aux jack. So I brought m iPod and plugged into it and it sounded phenomenal! I remember my parents' old stereo and even mono radios having excellent sound that you just don't get anymore on newer systems. Best way to do it IMO is this: With already being in a band and having a PA set up at home, just buy a component CD player, component tape deck, turntable and aux chord for your iPod and plug into the PA. Unfortunately most folks don't have the $$ or room in their house for that...…. and I wonder sometimes if most folks even care. :/ What do you think? PS: I already called dibs on my grandparents' stereo whenever my Grandmother should pass away

I still use an 80's and 90's era stereo equipment in my bedroom. The receiver and tape deck are from the early/mid 80's and the speakers, turntable and CD player are from the 90's. Sounds pretty good. Although both my receivers and tapedecks(have 2 of each of the same models) need some work. I just need to find someone who will work on them.

I miss my old stereos... I care about music and always try finding new music.... I read an article recently and it said that at age 27 you stop looking for new music. My first thought was “That’s a crock! I’m 56 and looking for new bands to get into!” Then I thought about it and now I wonder because I am finding new bands but I’m looking for bands that are going to kick my ass & rock out and even though the bands may be young like say The Treatment or say Greta Von Fleet they’re playing a similar style music I loved when I was around 27 or younger so my tastes in music are probably still the same even though bands are new.

Welcome to the forum! I think I read the same article about nobody looking for new music after 27 years old. That may be right for the average person. By 27 most folks are married with kids and a mortgage and don't care enough about music to seek out anything other than what they hear on the radio. Like you, I am always looking for new music, but I'm not really looking to branch out as far as getting into different styles. I know what I like at this point and want to hear new variations within musical styles I already like. I'll have to check out The Treatment, never heard of them, thanks!

I still look for new music but usually I am looking for new bands to play old school retro hard rock.....but if a new band excites me I am certainly interested. I have to admit....I still buy CD's and vinyl but it is usually and older band releasing new music or CD's of albums I used to have, vinyl I currently have, or older albums I wanted but never had.

I finally got my Grandparents' old Realistic stereo set up in my living room. I hooked up my iPod to the auxiliary jacks and...… sounds AWESOME! I could seriously cry at how great it sounds and how we've been subjecting ourselves to crap music players for decades now. This stereo was made to LISTEN to music. Nearly everything else on the market today is made to simply play music. There is a difference and I honestly didn't even realize how bad music systems have gotten until listening through this stereo. I actually sat on the floor in front of the speakers to listen like I did when I was a kid. Un-frickin'-believable! I'm sure they probably bought this at Kmart or Sears in the late 70's or early 80's and today, one can't find anything new like this even through an internet search. Love it! Nothing beats these vintage stereo systems!
