Didn't know how else to title this thread. The trend these days seems to be an artist going on tour playing one of their classic albums in its entirety and in original song order. I kinda think these shows are stupid. Especially when its an artist that has tones of Classic songs and, due to time constraints, have to shelve some of them in order to play, essentially, filler that was on an otherwise classic album. Plus, the classic albums tend to be front loaded with the hits, so the end of the set winds up being anti-climatic. Lastly, I like concert setlists to be a bit of a surprise as to what songs they play and what order. Advertising a tour as playing an entire album in order, well, that takes the mystery and magic out of the evening in my opinion. That said, since it's a trend whether I like it or not, so what albums would we like said artist to play entirely on a tour?

I saw Iron Maiden in 2006 in Irvine, Ca. It was on the tour for 'A Matter of Life and Death'....which I thought was an excellent album. They actually played that album in it's entirety from start to finish and I did not expect that. It was a bold move to do that with their new album.....but I loved it. They played that album and then 5 classic songs. I heard a few people complaining on the way out of the venue after the show. Not me. I enjoyed the hell out that show. Iron Maiden is my favorite band and I actually would like to see them do a tour where they revisit an entire album...and I also would like to see other bands do that as well. Here would be my choices:
Iron Maiden-Piece of Mind and Powerslave Helloween-Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I and II (with Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen) King Diamond-Abigail MercyFul Fate-Don't Break The Oath Queensryche-Rage For Order(With Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate) Fates Warning_Awaken The Guardian with the lineup from that album(They did this at Prog Power USA and in Germany...and released the live album....I just wish I had seen it) MSG-Assault Attack( With Graham Bonnet, Ted McKenna and Chris Glen) Europe-Wings Of Tomorrow David Lee Roth- Eat'em and Smile(with the original band) Flotsam and Jetsam-No Place For Disgrace Armored Saint-Delirious Nomad

To the extent that I should answer my own question, here's a few I wouldn't mind seeing played out live: Boston-First Album. It's front loaded with the big hits, but all the songs from this album got airplay and are well known. They could actually start the show with "Don't Look Back", "Amanda" and a few other songs from other records, then go into the debut in order, cuz "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" would make a great concert ender! Guns'n Roses-Appetite For Destruction. It has 95% of the GNR songs anybody cares about anyways. Play the album in full, then come back out and play "Civil War" and "November Rain". Molly Hatchet-Double Trouble Live. I'm kinda cheating here, but this was a great live collection. By playing this album for a concert, you're getting all the classic oldies, a few that they haven't played in years ("Satisfied Man" and "Stone In Your Heart"), "Free Bird", a full-length "Fall Of The Peacemakers" and a significant change up in their setlists ("Flirtin' With Disaster" would be 4th, "Beatin' The Odds" would end the show). Make this happen Bobby Ingram! Helloween-Keeper Of The 7 Keys (part II) Bad Company-What Your Hear Is What You Get. Another live album, but the song order is good and I'd really like to hear Paul Rodgers sing some of the Brian Howe material. it'll never happen, but I can dream

Some good choices Jesse.....I would have included Judas Priest in the mix....but Glenn Tipton is no longer touring and KK is out of the band. Faulkner is great but I would want to see the classic lineup do either 'Defenders Of The Faith', 'Stained Class', 'Screaming..' or 'Hell Bent For Leather'.
Stryper doing 'To Hell WIth The Devil' live would be cool.....just not crazy about the piano ballads "Honestly" and "All Of Me".....those songs are filler and throw aways in my opinion. Never understood Michael Sweet's penchant for writing and recording songs like that. Waste of album space...

Recently, a friend gave me a shitload of cassettes that included several Stryper albums. Much better than I ever gave them credit for, but they seem to always have one or two Sunday school songs per album

Much better than I ever gave them credit for, but they seem to always have one or two Sunday school songs per album Yeah there were usually 2 songs per album I didn't care for like the sappy, uninteresting ballads. Ballads are fine if the have an edge like "Alone Again" by Dokken or "You're All I Need" by Motley Crue.....but Sweet just wrote boring chick ballads....like he was serenading someone. But anyway.....as a whole Stryper's albums were solid. The first EP 'The Yellow And Black Attack' is great because its 6 songs with no ballads.
