As a young bass player I was majorly influenced by The Mighty Blue Oyster Cult. My first band played Godzilla & Astronomy. So I always have had soft spot these guys and their thinking mans heavy metal. And their an excellent band to listen to at 420 time. Te hee

I love a lot of their music. "Godzilla" is an all-time fav here, especially the live version off "Some Enchanted Evening". Freakin' over the top with sensational Godzilla guitar sounds and Japanese language coming through a mega-phone for a nice musical garnish. LOVE-LOVE-LOVE IT!

I like Blue Oyster Cult, but I always seem to fizzle out with them. Saw them in concert in 1994 and they were awesome! Bought some greatest hits and live cassettes of them, then fizzled out. Several years ago I got on a kick with them again, bought "Fire Of Unknown Origins" and loved it, but again fizzled out. What should I get by them so I don't fizzle out yet a third time?

I'm a huge BOC fan and let me say that I highly highly recommend the 'A Hard Days Night' live version of "And then came the Last Days of May". Alone that song is still great but the live version on that live album is unreal in my opinion. Tough call on what my favorite BOC album is...I love the remastered CD of "Tyranny & Mutation" or their debut. I hate the studio version of Godzilla but love the live "Some Enchanted Evening" version which by the way is probably my favorite live album by them. I do like the "On your Feet or on Your Knees" Live album too especially for the long jam on ME 262.
Anyway...the first time I seen them was in 1980 on the Black & Blue Tour with Sabbath (& Shaking Street). BOC went on before Sabbath and totally blew them away and I mean blew them away! I love the Heaven & Hell album and am a Dio fan but they were boring...what didn't help was BOC was done by 9pm and Sabbath didn't hit the stage until 11:15 and in between they played classical music. I seen Sabbath the next year and they were great. I wish this would get released but there actually was a Black & Blue tour movie which was decent(Sabbath was good in that film as well) as they played it at midnight at a local theater one night.
BOC still puts on a good show as I seen them 2 years ago open for 38 Special and BOC was definitely the better band(even my wife agrees with that)

Spectres is great as well...R.U. Ready to Rock, Golden Age of Leather, Death Valley Nights, Nosferatu, Searchin' for Celine are all cool tunes(some may be a bit different but I love them)...& then you do have the studio version of Godzilla which is good...if you don't hear that Some Enchanted live version. I will say I wasn't that big on Mirrors because I had heard Dr. Music on the Radio and loved it and for some reason the rest of the album didn't connect with me but then about 10 years ago I bought the CD (to complete my early years of BOC 1973-1981) and really enjoyed the album & still do. Dr. Music, Moon Crazy, Mirrors, Lonely Teardrops, I am the Storm, & the Vigil are my favorites. What's great w/BOC is their style as they have kick ass hard rock tunes but they also have these just cool sounding tunes that have nothing to do with Hard Rock and are great tunes.
Another album I love is Cultosaurus Erectus which is a bit different but another recommendation which I think is a must have compilation especially if you have no studio albums is Workshop of the Telescopes which is a double CD set and it covers everything even a few of the decent songs that are unknown from the mid 80's. It has deep cuts as well as their hits.

I'd agree with "Mirrors" and "Spectres" as top notch studio fare, but my favorite studio album has always been "Agents Of Fortune"

I've come to the conclusion...I love all BOC!!!! ...but Tyranny & Mutation is my personal favorite. Equinox's mention of Agents of Fortune is definitely worthy as well. Agents was my first BOC album which had one of those album covers I used to love. I even remember tracing the cover and I was so happy to get that cover on a concert T-shirt when I seen them. Anyway, the songs...the album is well worth the price for Don't Fear the Reaper, ETI,This Ain't the Summer of Love, Sinful Love, & my favorite Tattoo Vampire. As with Other BOC albums are a few throwaway tracks like Debbie Denise, True Confessions and Revenge of Vera Gemini... Actually...for me...Tyranny & Mutation & Agents gets my vote

They still put on a good show I seen them last year opening for 38 Special. It was kind of sad because BOC started at 6Pm on a Tuesday night so the crowd was pretty sparse for them as people were probably still getting out of work but they were much better than 38 Special.
