Anyone else catch this on VH1Classic the other night? Or ever? I DVRed it and have been watching it the last few evenings. It's much better than I expected......although, admittedly, I expected the 3-1/2 hour show to be the audience waiting for the band to come out for 3 hours, then GNR coming out, playing 1 song and half another before Axl Rose tells the audience to go fuck themselves and leaves the stage. I gotta say, as much as I hate Axl Rose, he put together a really good, really tight, really talented band. Now, none of the three guitar players quite have the tone or feel of Slash, but who does? The drummer was probably better than Steven Adler and on par with Matt Sorum. Bass player was solid, even if he did just stand there most of the show. And Axl, was Axl for better or worse. I never liked his voice to begin with, but I didn't notice any deterioration of it either. And. other than the bassist, they were very energetic. The songs sounded like they should live (although, as I said, no one could emulate Slash's tone) and Izzy Stradlin even made an appearance. Even the songs I didn't know were pretty damn good (I am assuming they were from "Chinese Democracy", the album they took 17 years to make and I'm planning on taking 17 years to buy it!). If you haven't seen this show and are a GNR fan in the least, I'd say it's must see TV. Even if you're not a fan, it's worth checking out, it might surprise you, it surprised me!

I watched it before & was not impressed I was impressed, but as I said, my expectations were VERY low. What also impressed me was how they packed that arena. Can't offhand think of another band with only 1 original member who can do that.

I didn't see that particular show but for some reason a month ago I was in Guitar Center walking around and I picked up their Appetite for Democracy DVD live from 2012. I became a fan of G n R after reading a small article on them in Kerrang Magazine in the 80's. They sounded like they were right up my alley and looked it as well w/the photo that accompanied the article. Shortly after reading that I was looking at a record store and came across their Live Suicide ep. I immediately bought the ep especially because of the article plus they covered Mama Kin by Aerosmith. About a week later I picked up Appetite which was just put on the shelves with the original cover. I love that album to this day. Anyway...the DVD is pretty decent but I feel a bit hypocritical because I really still enjoy Kiss without Ace Frehley or Peter Criss and the same thing w/ Alice Cooper w/out his original band but for some reason I feel G n R needs at least Slash to be G n R. As I said it was a decent show and I am a big fan of bassist Tommy Stinson(I was a big fan of the Replacements and then I bought Tommy's Bash & Bop project)
