Iron Maiden has release 10 live albums: Maiden Japan, Live After Death, A Real Live One, A Real Dead One, Live in Donington 1992, Rock in Rio, Death on the Road, Flight 666, En Vivo!, Maiden England ‘88 (am I missing one?)
Do you think this is overkill? Or do you think “the more the better.”
I mean, between 2002 and today, they released FIVE live albums. That’s about one every two years. And they only did THREE studio albums in that same time. For me, I don’t see them as a band like The Grateful Dead or Phish. When those bands do/did a song live, every version is/was a little different. When Maiden does Number of the Beast (for example), every version is about the same. The only difference I see in these albums is sound quality and crowd noise/participation.
I have just about all of these (I don’t have the Maiden England ’88 that just came out), and I find that I’ve listen to just about all of them once. The only one that gets played often is Live After Death.
I think if you got Maiden Japan (with Paul Di'Anno), Live After Death and any ONE from the 2000’s you are pretty much set.

The only one I don't have is Death On The Road. Don't know why. Is it over kill?.... ya maybe, I'm a sucker for live albums though. You're right.. they pretty much stick to the same versions of the songs. They do very their setlist. They're definatly no Deep Purple when comes to changing up their songs style live. I've gotten a lot of DP live albums lately. Like I said, I am a sucker for live albums. Maiden England 88 is awesome by the way.

It is slightly overkill but The Stones & Rush have their fair share of live albums out too. 'Maiden Japan' incidentally was an EP of four songs (five songs if you got the import). The full show was given away through their fanclub. You're also missing quite a few. There's a version of the Donington one without all the studio overdubs, plus the ones included with the boxset, such as the different Reading Festival sets, & 'Beast Over Hammersmith'.

Actually you are missing one of their best live albums which is 'Beast Over Hammersmith'. It was not properly released in the States until the Box set came out but it was released in Europe back in the early 80's. Its from the 'Beast On The Road' tour. Great album. That, 'Maiden Japan' and 'Live After Death' are my favorites.

Okay, my take on it is...it's not overkill (for myself maybe!). I have Maiden Japan, Live After Death, Rock in Rio, & Flight 666. I rarely if ever listen to the Rio one & about the same for Flight 666. I love the other 2. I like Maiden a lot but I'm not a Maiden Freak (they are probably not even in my top 20 artists) but now if Kiss put out a live album on every tour I would love it & the same goes for Alice Cooper & the Stones (I can't get enough live material from these bands). Even back in the 70's I couldn't get enough Live albums by these bands so I was ecstatic when I would go into this little record shop & buy these lousy sound quality live records with plain white cardboard covers & paper inserts(bootlegs which at the time I didn't understand what they were). So...if you're a super fan of the band I say keep putting out live albums from every tour!

Dream Theater releases a live album after every tour. Must be a market for it or bands wouldn't put them out.

I only have "A Real Live One" and "A Real Dead One". Both are great and pretty much cover all the bases up to 1993. A couple songs I wish were on those that aren't, but most Maiden tunes I don't see a whole lot of difference between their studio version and their live versions, so those 2 albums are sufficient for me.
