When I was younger I really liked Motley Crue.
Nowdays they seem to annoy me and I am not really into them anymore. I am older now and songs like Girls Girls Girls are just silly. Their whole image thing seems silly to me. Especially when they are in their 50's and still writing songs about drugs and stuff like that.

The more pressing question is, why in the hell do they let that Dumbass Tommy Lee have a microphone on stage? He's is the most annoying person ever IMO.

Because you are grounded in reality. When we're young, all that stuff is cool, when you get older, you realize just how trite some music really is. In the 60's and 70's, I believe they refered to it as "Bubblegum" music. In the 80's and 90's....and even today, we refer to it as "cheese".
Some "cheesy, bubblegum" things I've noticed as I got older:
-While never a HUGE Kiss fan, I always liked them, however, when I finally got to see them live in the late 90's, I saw them as 4 50-somethings playing dress up.
-I saw a picture in a magazine where Micheal Anthony was flipping the bird to the camera and thought, "What an idiot". Seriously, by that time, Anthony was AT LEAST in his late 40's if not early 50's. Not cool anymore, just stupid.
-(At separate shows) Eddie Money and Def Leppard's Rick Savage unbuttoning their shirts and striking flirtatious poses at the younger women in the audience. C'mon guys, your hey day was over for about 4 years when these girls were born!

I notice that on some of that 80's stuff also. I really lived through that whole era being in my 20's then & I had fun with it but it now seems that 70's Hard Rock/Metal holds up better than that mid to late 80's stuff (I don't mean all the stuff from that era). Living through the 80's it started off great for us Metal fans but somewhere along the way things changed...Those first 2 Def Leppard albums were great. I even enjoyed 'Pyromania' especially '"Rock til You Drop"...& then IT happened! Same thing with Motley Crue...Those first 2 albums were & still are phenomenal (I can still throw on "Too Fast for Love" or "Looks That Kill" & still rock out to them)...but then IT Happened!! Same thing with Whitesnake(I Love 'Ready & Willing','Live in the Heart of the City', & 'Slow & Easy'). I love Kiss but in that era when they came out with "Tears are Falling", "Uh All Night", "Let's Put the X in Sex "& "Reason to Live"... Alice Cooper had a comeback in the mid to late 80's with 'Constrictor' & followed that up with the super Heavy 'Raise Your Fist & Yell' accompanied with a real Horror Show tour but he followed that up with 'Trash' which sold great but with the God awful duet with Steven Tyler on the ballad "Only My Heart Talking" & songs co-written by Bon Jovi I just never really took to much of that album. Speaking of Bon Jovi...he's another!! I liked his s/t debut along w/ '7800 Degrees Farenheit' but then he became one of the main reasons music changed where all that mattered was to cater to 16 year old girls or so it seemed that way to me.
Still there were a lot of bands out there that kept earning Metal/Hard Rock it's good name such as Anthrax,Metallica,Manowar, Loudness,The Cult,Savatage,London Quireboys, Dogs D'Amour, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest,Saxon,Mama's Boys,WASP...etc.

Nothing wrong with that Frank & I will say that while I kind of bashed some bands above...some of those bands still put out good songs during that era(such as Kiss & Motley Crue) but I just despised those candy ass tunes. I guess what I was trying to say is you can play a song like "Strutter" by Kiss & it still kicks ass but throw on "Uh All Night" which was released over a decade later & the video is laughable & the music immediately screams out "What was I thinking!!!". That era sounds very dated but hell I'm sure record companies pushed for those type songs & they did make some money. I guess you could even look at the early 90's Beavis & Butthead cartoons where they always wore Metallica & AC/DC t shirts while the kid that was a loser wore a Winger t shirt. Speaking of Winger...He did release an album title 'Karma' a few years ago & that album is very heavy & dark

The Crue really let me down with their last record.
The songs on that album sound like the ones a teenager would write.
I just can't get into a 50 year old Vince Neil wearing Lugs either on stage and jumping around like a monkey.
You can be Rock N Roll and still have substance instead of cheese.

The first CRUE album is a classic. Very original and fresh.
After they got success they just kept chasing after it again and again. They only got worse.

As they get older, they seem to get more immature. WTF is that? That just turns me off. They are men with the mindset of a 12 year old.

Kinda like The Rolling Stones huh?... ;D
Actually, It's interesting to note that the Stones have been in a similar situation for what?...Insert decades here_______.
What is it about the Stones that seem to keep them going? Talent? Image? Music?...or a perfectly combined mixture of the above?...similar to the perfect blend of herbs and spices that go into the secret of the Colonels KFC?
Thanks Kim

The Stones and Motley Crue aren't even allowed to be mentioned in the same sentence. And, KFC's secret is MSG by the ton. The Stones aren't even close to being my favorite band! Motley Crue is running on nostalgia and rebelious spirit. The Rolling Stones? Rebelious, creative spirit only. They often try wild new things musically and don't seem to cling to the olden days too much.

They were either sellouts or smart MF's, I tend to go with the latter. They dabbled in Disco-ish music in the mid to late 70's and got very 80's stylish early in that decade...

Motley Crue is running on nostalgia and rebelious spirit. The Rolling Stones? Rebelious, creative spirit only. They often try wild new things musically and don't seem to cling to the olden days too much. Sure they are. Anyone and everyone are allowed the respect to be mentioned in comparison to any degree...after all, it is music based and trends, styles and genres are up for grabs when it comes to likes and dislikes. I simply mentioned a veteran group and compared their status to another veteran group from a different era. In doing so, I also cited a veritable question that begs the question, whether you like The Rolling Stones or Motley Crue or not is a moot point...The answer is subjective and one based on personal preference. However, that said...I think The Stones link their greatness to nostalgia....yet have had enough legs over the years to continue on creating new "nostalgia" so to speak...and as Equinox has mentioned, has had the ability to adapt to the musical changes that have taken place over the years without becoming redundant and otherwise out of touch with the way in which the general populace appears to want when it comes to classic rock. As far as KFC goes...yeah...it could be the MSG? From what I understumble though, the FDA and CFA have been, and are clamping down on that sort of shit, so you tell me...what keeps them going and how are they fooling the general public with their crap? Kinda like the classic rock bands. Nostalgia? Trexx...give The Stones another spin...you may be pleased with what you hear. If the hooks don't get you, the blues surely will. It's all original, no fillers, no additives. Thanks Kim
