I saw a concert of Chicago on TV about a week ago and thought I'd give my opinions on it as well as find out what anyone else's opinions were.
I'm not much of a Chicago fan. "25 Or 6 To 4" is friggin' awesome, but beyond that, I can take or leave Chicago. That said, the concert I saw of them was excellent! Surprisingly high-energy and the guitarist had a killer tone that made even their wimpier songs sound really good. They breezed through most of their cheesy 80's material with a medley of such hits and, I gotta tell you, I may have to revisit some of their 70's stuff because in the live setting, it was really good. I might even have to check them out if they tour in my area.
Anyone ever see them? Any fans?

Never seen them & I'm a casual fan in a "Greatest Hits" Kind of way. I know there definitely was 80's cheese but I actually liked "Stay the Night" from the 80's. I should probably give them a deeper listen but as I said I like their Hits such as "Saturday in the Park","Old Days", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is", "Free", & "Colour My World". Of Course Nothing tops "25 or 6 to 4" (unless you have the "Under 4 minute version where the "Wah Wah Solo" is cut out as in the 45 single version...it's still okay but about as frustrating as the 5 minute 45 single version of "Freebird") . The other 2 songs I really like are "I'm a Man" & "Feeling Stronger Everyday".
...Oh in case you were wondering on "If You Leave me Now" they sing "Woooh Hooo Hooo" 7 & a half times. Back in the 80's that song was played every night where I worked in a grocery Store & I was bored one night so I counted them at probably 4 in the morning

After Terry Kath (Make Me Smile, Colour My World) accidentally shot himself and died, they pretty much became a vehicle for Peter cetera's sappy ballads. Other than their original greatest hits collection, I have Chicago II (The album just has the name "Chicago" on it, which I had on vinyl as a teenager. This is a great double album that took it's inspiration from the Beatles "Abby Road." All the sides seem to be carefully crafted. The 2nd side of the album is one long suite called "Ballet For A Girl In Buchanon" and features the songs Make Me Smile, So Much To Say, So Much To Give, Anxiety's Moment, West Virginia Fantasies, Colour my World, To Be free, and Now More Than Ever. The album also includes 25 or 6 to 4, and the 4th side is a suite called "It Better End Soon" I highly recommend this if yu want to listen to what Chicago was all about (at least in the beginning) I found this audio "Ballet For A Girl In Buchanon"

Never liked Chicago. There music always annoyed the shit outta me. Thought much of their music was corny and sounded like the music you would here in the Super Market. I actually used to get mad when I heard them on the radio......fortunately I have XM in the car now and don't have to hear it.

If you have directTV and this concert of them is on, check it out though. It might surprise you as it did me. Even if it doesn't, it won't cost you anything to flip on the channel for a few minutes.

I have the Greatest Hits Volumes 1, 2 and 3. I love Volume one. Two and three have their moments. I probably like a lot of the sappy Peter Cetera songs more than I should. But, I really hated the sappy songs they did after Cetera left.

Admittedly I like 'em. Love the horns and intricate compositions. They're no Blood Sweat and Tears however, they've got a bunch of good stuff.
