He and David Gilmour spent many years at loggerheads through lawyers after Waters decided to depart in 1985. Waters claimed the group had “dissolved” and rought to stop the remaining members from continuing under the Floyd name.
But relations have thawed since then, and, last year, surviving members Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason appeared during one of Waters’ live performances of classic album The Wall.
Now the solo artist, who says he’ll retire at the end of his current world tour, admits the years of anger weren’t worth it.
Asked by radio host Howard Stern if Floyd were wrong to keep playing his songs after he’d left, Waters says: “No, I don’t think so. I think I was wrong to think they were wrong.”
The band had begun to drift apart many years before the final split, he reflects. “We were a cracking team when we were younger. From 1968 to Dark Side of the Moon we were a pretty tightly-knit group.”
But things started to change when Floyd’s acclaimed 1973 album brought financial rewards. “Dark Side of the Moon was the first time we made any cash,” says Waters. “We were reasonably generous with one another at that time.
“I think once you’ve achieved that measure of success, you’ve really done what it was you set out to do together. From then on it was really about clinging to the trademark in a kind of frightened way, not wanting to lose the umbrella with the words ‘Pink’ and ‘Floyd’ together.”

It's a shame folks have to get too old to do anything about it to realize they made a mistake.

His actions in the past made me think he was a selfish, fool hardy, old coot.

There is no room for anger when it comes to music.
That's the one thing that I never understood and the one thing that bothers me because it now becomes a business which causes the anger in the second place after the first place being the music itself ....if that makes any sense at all?
Very sad to see so many artists, talented musicans and groups suffer these demises only to realize lost opportunities after many years because of this nasty side of human nature and the business of music that eventually takes over solid relationships that started out with a simple bond, direction that was clearly in focus, then was developed, refined, honed and relied upon from the start.
Patching things up at the "end", or at this point may ease their concious and that's good, but what of the lost possibilities that they, as artists have lost out on...not to mention what the fans and ultimately, the world has lost out on in terms of the music?
Supertramp? (list your fav band here)............are you listening?
Sleep easy for those involved I guess?...but "what could have been" still rings loudly in my ears and I patiently await to hear from those that can put their anger aside before it's too late.
Like money,..."Anger" is not something that you can take to the grave with you.
Thanks Kim

However, being in a band and having been in bands, I can understand (somewhat) with Water's feeling at the time. My old cover band was made up of 4 good friends. We all got along great and played whatever songd anyone else in the band wanted to do. Once we began playing out, things changed. All of a sudden we had to play what we thought the audiences wanted to hear....which was all well and good, but there were 4 differing opinions on "what the audiences wanted to hear". And this was a little half-assed cover band in Podunktown, Pennsytucky. I can only imagine the magnitude of this effect on a band of Pink Floyd's fame.

The tour for Roger's solo album "Radio KAOS" showed his ego had grown to mammoth proportions.
While he and the band played the music really well, they had a DJ sort of running the show, and after EVERY FUCKING SONG he would say "Words and Music by Roger Waters"
About half way through the show the folks in my aisle were all muttering "OK, we get it! You wrote all the songs, you dickhead!"

No, the result was that they weren't happy as a band with the success of "The Wall" it became about who got credit for what, or more to the point, Roger wanting all the credit for it. It was a great album (I'll take Dark Side over it personally), but in terms of the band it was basically the beginning of the end.
