Beatles and Led Zeppelin are obvious choices. How about the not-so-obvious ones? The Cars-I heard them on the radio the other day and it made me think up this thread. Certainly not in the same class as the Beatles or Zep and I've heard that they always sucked live, but I'll be damned if their songs don't bring a smile to my face whenever I hear them. For that, they must be commended. Ram Jam-Yeah, pretty much a one-hit-wonder, but I bought a "Best Of..." CD of them (basically just their 2 albums on one CD), and I'll be damned, EVERY ONE of those songs rock bigtime! Who else?

umm.... not sure why the The Cars would make you think of this. They are coming out with a new album in May. A song released on radio last month.

Great mention there Jesse with The Cars. I always had a soft spot in my heart for them, even back when they first hit the streets. I recall getting into a somewhat heated debate with a bunch of "rockers" of the Uriah Heep, Deep Purple mindset as a college student...trying to convince them that the music was NOT DISCO, but something a little bit different. I was out numbered and lost the battle that night, lucliky, we all agreed to slap on some Supertramp, smoke a fattie or 2 and agree to disagree...haha. Speaking of Supertramp, there's a group that in my opinion is No More, regardless of the fact that the remaining members are hitting the road for another tour this year...sans Roger Hodgson yet again. To me, it's just not the same. Same goes for ELO, as Ricky mentioned. There's a group I'd love to see give er another crack at it! Thanks Kim

You know this is difficult because a lot of bands are still together but they have different members & are just playing occasional small club places.
I think of Starz, Angel, April Wine but they're still around...you just don't hear of them much
I just thought of one!!!! The FACES with Rod Stewart & Ronnie Wood

The FACES with Rod Stewart & Ronnie Wood That's why this is a difficult thread. Any band that had any kind of following, seems to have a version out there on the road and/or releasing new material. I really thought I had something with the Cars. That's why I love this board, I find out stuff like that all the time here . That said, I guess I should replace the Cars with another good band that is no more: Rossington Collins Band- If there weren't so much money to be made as Lynyrd Skynyrd, I woulda thought Gary Rossington and Dale Krantz would have put something together by now, but they probably never will. Gary's health issues barely give him enough time to tour and record with Skynyrd. Still, they were a fine band for a few years and made 2 darned good albums in that time. Besides Gary and Dale, I believe drummer Derek Hess and guitarist Barry Harwood are still around. Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson and Allen Collins have all passed though.

When you were talking about Johnny Van Zandt on your one thread I immediately pulled out my Johnny Van Zandt Band album listened to it & then pulled out the Rossington Collins band record & have really been into it lately. ...Once again that's what makes this forum great!
