Let me share my feelings with you all, since I respect your opinions and I really enjoy discussing music on here with each and every one of you. You guys know music and I use this board alot of times as a place where I can ask questions and hopefully get some answers. Which normally happens and I respect and appreciate each and every one of them.
Why is it that when I walk into a place that has a jukebox, I find myself being the only person in the whole place that plays songs such as Child in Time by Deep Purple, or some rare track off of Motley Crue's Too Fast for Love, such as Starry Eyes? I find myself always being the only one who ever plays the Warrior by Wishbone Ash, or a song from Aerosmith that is not from the 90's, but from the 70's such as Seasons of Wither or Rats in the Cellar. If I play Cheap Trick its not "I want you to love me" like so many others play, but I choose instead to play "Big Eyes."
I think you get my point, so if you could explain why this is , I would really appreciate it.
First off...I have to say, I was rather impressed with ALL of the responses to your post Blue...WAIT!...better said, I was really impressed!...haha.
You do raise a good question, and I for one won't take that away from you...but I do have to admit to falling off my chair in laughter in agreement with Spacel0rd's response.......maybe it was the mood I was in at the moment?...but I can relate to Jaime and the point that he makes...hahahaha.
Pete pretty much nails it and Snakes backs it up in his own terms and yet comes to the same conclusion...one that pretty much defines the vast majority of the members here.
For the most part, I have to say that questioning the folks here on the "bleedin' obvious" can be redundant to some degree
and therefore may lead to an otherwise stark response.
No harm or foul intended on anyone's part here I would think Blue.
Anyway, and this is just my humble take on your great question...but I can't recall the last time I walked into any establishment that first of all, housed a "Juke Box".
The early 90's was the time that I last came across one of these
beasts from the past, and even then, damned if I could find
Purple's "Child in Time" or even Genesis' "Abacab".
I'd be in my glory should I ever find my way into this gateway to the past. The best that I can hope for these days is to hear the "streaming" muzac being piped through the washroom at the local Kelsey's Restaurant, and actually finding myself surprised to hear Toto's "Rosanna" before I hit the flush handle. Forget the 70's where I live...ain't gonna happen.
I have to say this though Blue, you are a trooper if you actually can find a spot that has a juke box, and I'll give you bonus points for finding one that has a selection on it such as "Big Eyes"!
Please send along the address to me!...of the establishment where this actually exists...because I want to put it onto my travel itinerary. Worth the trip in itself, because next to you, I'd be the second person putting a "nickel" in to hear "Big Eyes" myself!
Although I don't get out as much as I used to, and living in Northern Ontario here, I'll be honest in admitting that there sure as hell is not a lot of diversity when it comes to music in a public venue, so the days of expecting to hear anything in the way of "deeper cuts" have long since passed...simply put because it's so much easier for any venue, of any size, or calibre, to go with the flow and stay with the tried and true...which boils down to the dreaded "Top 40" of the day.
THAT'S why all of us are here! That's why we can all relate to the shortcomings of our given locales. That's why we share our concerns. That's why we compare new to old. That's why we look towards hearing from the people that have been a part of this site for many years. That's why we still maintain an open mind. That's why we still have conversations comparing old with new.
Now, for what it's worth...and hopefully, I can answer a burning
question for you that you seem to have been asking for quite some time....................
You were simply born in the wrong era!
No problem!
You have passed the audition!
You are a classic rocker at heart!
You love good music!...especially the older stuff!
Welcome to the club...We feel the same way.
No need to question your tastes, your needs, or your take on the classics...we all understand.
Keep in mind, we also have a great number of members that understand that of the older members here, yet have the ability and open mind to further it on towards the newer music of the day.
Keep asking the burning questions, but ask them with a purpose, not to just generate a response, back it up further with what YOU FIRMLY believe in...throw us all a bone to at least chew on and relate to.
As I mentioned some time ago, I, for one, feel like a lab rat in some bizarre, yet purposefull experiment in regards to a possible thesis outcome here when I respond to the questions that you pose for the most part.
Don't get mw wrong, I love your topics...but it seems to be directed as a "one way" presentation?
Maybe it's just me?
If this IS all part of a grand thesis...all I can say is...
I sure as hell hope that WE have all passed the audition!
Now, my question to you is this..........
Why do you like "BIG EYE'S" compared to "I WANT YOU TO WANT ME"?...................... THAT's a good question!!!
Please discuss.
;D
Thanks
Kim
