I swear to god this is very frustrating. You have classic bands releasing new albums nowdays. You read the interviews and they hype up the album saying how good its going to be. Then you finally listen to the albums , and the songs fucking blow. Perfect example the last Kiss record. I also just listened to the new Whitesnake song and it just sounds lame compared to the stuff they released back in the day.
Thoughts?

I think it has a lot to do with the members of bands not working together like they use to..

I don't necessarily agree. Cheap Trick, The Allman Bros, Styx, Kansas, Alice Cooper.... in the last 10 years have all put out CDs that would have hit big back in the day when these bands were big. Obviously, they were more in touch with things back when they were in their 20's, but there is still some good music coming out.
Their time to be relevant (in a big way) has passed. We're not 18 years old and lapping up everything these bands do now. There aren't enough of us "classic" rock fans to get the ship sailing for these guys. I've said this a couple of times, we aren't the generation who's stirring the drink anymore... we haven't been for 25 years!
Hell, even alot of my "classic rock" friends don't really want to hear any more new stuff from these bands. In concert, the new songs are a que to take a piss break for alot of them.
I came to the realization a couple of years ago that my generation isn't coming back. Instead of lamenting the fall of classic rock, I try to appreciate that classic rock still has a forum on local rock stations, and kids like it for the most part alot better than I liked the stuff my folks listened to (who's stuff was long gone from the radio).

Maybe it has to do with the fact that you see a 80 year old David Coverdale who's voice is shot, in tight leather pants and a shirt unbuttoned half way and you go "What the fuck?"

At my age, I'm more discriminating with my music dollar. Just cant go out and find the flavor of the week like my teen years. And i do beleive bands are only putting out things to satisfy record contracts. Look at Deep Purple since 1991 they've had no less than 8 record labels. Rock isnt the cash cow it was in the 70's and 80's, so a band puts something out to tour to make their money. Selling 50,000 albums doesnt cover record studio time.

I think some of them do. In addition to the group Equinox and Trexx mentioned, I think Molly Hatchet's latest album "Justice" may be the best album they ever did! Lynyrd Skynyrd's "God & Guns" wasn't exactly an exercise in futility either. AC/DC's last album was darned good. I think many Classic Rock acts are still at the top of their game in creating music, problem is nobody's buying it.

I just saw the video for Whitesnake's new song and wanted to like it but Coverdale is scary. He looks like Eddie form Iron Maiden and his vocals are very produced.

True, but they are the exeption, not the rule. AC/DC is one of the few Classic rock acts that will always sell.

Yes!...pretty much what Equinox said. Our time has come and gone. It was great while it lasted, and for the most part is reason why I like to come here and take a watlz down memory lane. When a classic group does come out with something that stirs the embers from days of old, it's a bonus...gravy if you will. Other than that, I won't hold their feet to the fire. They've been there and done that...no turning back. Thanks Kim
