Yes but the average white kid is not supporting the bands you have mentioned. Walk down the street, and ask 10 white or black kids who Eminem is or who is Vic Johnson. I guarantee you all of them will know who Eminem is. You would be lucky as fuck to have one know who Vic Johnson is. Or even Sepultra. Fuck I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know who Rage against the Machine was. LOL
Trust you to pick up on the artist who is the least known from the ones I mentioned & compare him to one of the most popular rap artists.
However, replace the name Vic Johnson with the name Lenny Kravitz & ask those same 10 white & black kids the same question & I guarantee at least 80% would know who he was. Just like our age demographic would.
Can you, without looking it up, name even one Eminem song? I can't, but I can name a dozen Lenny Kravitz songs. To me, the mainstream you keep going on about seems to be full of Lady Gaga at the moment, not Eminem. She is the latest big thing.
Besides there are a lot of similarities between the genre's of rock & rap that both black & white lids have picked up on. Cast your mind back to collaborations between;
Run DMC / Aerosmith
Busta Rhymes / Ozzy
Public Enemy / Anthrax
P Diddy / Jimmy Page
The Beastie Boys / Kerry King
Boo Ya Tribe / Faith No More
Those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Plus many rock bands play around with rap music & vice versa. Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More, Biohazard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kid Rock, Clawfinger, Dog Eat Dog, P.O.D, Saliva...
Maybe THIS is the reason you seem to think white kids support rap. however there are just as many black kids supporting rock.
