The reason I ask is because you don't see too many black kids sitting around listening to modern rock music. Hell alot of them don't even know that rock n roll was created by african americans. It seems like when it comes to being loyal to their own culture, black kids are much more loyal than whites when it comes to supporting their own culture through music especially. Seems like white kids adopt other cultures alot more than black people do. I never understood that at all. Can someone please explain that to me? Why is it that today you see so many white kids listening to modern day black music (Hip Hop and Rap) Are they ashamed of their own culture's music? Which would be classic rock and modern rock. Its not cool to listen to this music or what? Or maybe what it comes down to and what I am noticing is that 95 percent of the population are trend jumpers. They will like whatever they feel is the "In" thing. They treat music the same way as the newest most popular fashion. That is more important to them than anything else and has a huge impact on their choice of music.

That's a very generalizing and sweeping statement. How many black kids do you know? I actually know a few and everyone of them likes at least one or two modern rock acts and a few even are into classic rock extensively.
Rock started a black thing too. So saying your supporting your culture for a white kid to like rock is kind of retarded. This is America it's a melting pot and that's what our music is doing.. melting.

This is America it's a melting pot and that's what our music is doing.. melting. Rock did indeed start as a black thing. But classic rock and hard rock are not a black thing. That was invented and performed by white people. Now bands such as living colour and Sevendust have black members. The lead singer of Sevendust is one of my favorite hard rock/metal frontmen. He is awesome. But other than that there aren't any black rock/hard rock/metal bands that I have seen. Slash also is half black but you know , how many other black Slashes are there? I don't see them. So, lets revisit the question at hand. At the same time that young white kids (Mike Bloomfield, Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Brian Jones, and many, many others) were embracing the black music and rediscovering Son House, Mississippi John Hurt, etc. , young blacks were turning to James Brown, Stax, Motown, etc.. black music (blues and rock n roll) was considered passe, or even worse, Uncle Tomming." One or two generations of young blacks stopped listening to rock n roll/ blues, playing it, or even talking about the music altogether. Unfortunately, their children and grandchildren were not exposed to this incredible music, while their white counterparts were via American & British rock stars. Rock n Roll has turned into a white mans music. Thats the bottom line. Why white kids don't embrace it more is beyond me. Why mainstream media doesn't push it as "cool" is a shame.

Loyalty to our own culture? If all the "white" folks in this country hadn't embraced black music, we'd still be singing "Jimmy Cracked Corn" all day. Not sure what you are inferring with that comment, but it kinda comes off as a bit racist. Those darkies stick to their own music, so why can't we? Just like Black blues became rock, black rap has developed alot of white rappers now. Beastie Boys, Eminem, House of Pain, Asher Roth, etc.... And the idea that you know what young white and black people were listening to back in the 50's and 60's is pure speculation on your part. There was plenty of Temptations, Four Tops, 5th Dimension, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye on the record player at my house growing up. I think you ought to just worry about what you like and stop lamenting and complaining about what young people today like. You're not going to change what young people like. It's their time to set what is in and what is out. I'm actually pretty happy that there are still alot of classic rock stations, and the music is still out there in the mainstream. I know alot of young people who listen to classic rock, as well as the newer hip-hop stuff. There were no outlets for my parents music when I was a teenager, and none of my friends or I listened to any of it. Here's how I look at it. My generation had it's time, and nobody in their 50's was going to tell us what we should and shouldn't like and listen to.

Bottom line, rap and hip hop are the mainstream man. Alot of white kids are ignoring classic rock and rock music in general because they think it would make them "uncool" to drive down the street cranking old Aerosmith compared to rap. Thats a shame. When they get older alot of them will be ashamed they ever listened to rap over bands like Aerosmith. Alot of these kids don't even know what they want to be when they grow up. All they care about is what others think about them. Thats fucking sad! Look, here's a perfect example. Are you fuckin kidding me here? They think this is cool? They look like clowns. BTW Im not gettign upset, so no need to say "Settle down." IM just proving points that white kids are not happy with their own culture. Thats not racist, its called calling people out on being huge posers.........

You know what though? This is nothing new. White kids have always adopted black culture through the music they listen to. Jazz was once considered "Black" Music. You had people labeled as hipsters in the 1940's. I could go on and on. White people have always loved black music. I for one just don't like the black music that is coming out nowdays.

If this wasn't on this forum I would think this was a troll...
I cannot believe I am replying to this...
"White" kids love rap and hip hop because their parents HATE it and it is good to dance to. It is very rebellious in a lame way as well.
It's that simple...HOWEVER
I don't see any LACK of love for classic rock where I live. The band I am in has crowds of young people every weekend rocking out.
Most of "our" bands are 30 YEARS OLD...that's quite a run.
I could appreciate Chuck Berry or Elvis back in the day but I sure wasn't running to slap them on my stereo. Kids want their OWN thing.
I am sure Hendrix and Phil Lynott are suprised to learn of the no black rockers rule....as well as about 20 others I can think of off the top of my head.

Speedy, do you see any black rockers in the mainstream currently? No you do not. Back in the day you had alot more black rockers in the mainstream. Hendrix and Lynott are two that come to mind. Their bands were all over the radio. Why are there not any black dudes creating bands and getting their music heard on top 40 radio? Why is that? Explain.

Speedy's answer really plows right to the truth of the matter. Well said, Speedy!
I'll answer the with another question.
Q: Why has American Black music been the ONLY music that has encircled the world not once, not twice, but THREE times in subsequent generations?
ie: Jazz, Rock AND Rap
There's no other music that can claim this.

There are dozens of kids I see every day wearing Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Beatles, Black Sabbath as well as newer rock memoribilla & not all of them are white.

Music, like art has the presence of all colours... and in the art world, the presence of all colours make Black. I never thought music had one specific colour atributed to it though and was made up of the entire colour spectrum...varying on shades of gray?........... Thanks Kim

You guys just don't want to answer the fucking question. (Sorry for the cuss word) LOL
Do you see any all black rock bands out there in the mainstream right now? No!
Do you see any all black hip hop groups out there in the mainstream right now? Yes.
Back in the day you had all black rock n roll groups. Why not today? I know for a fact that there has to be some black dudes out there that like to Rock, and are young! Or is that just my imagination? Because right now I don't see any!
So Explain the reason why we don't see a bunch of bad ass brothers getting together , starting a rock n roll band, and making it big in todays music industry.
Discuss.

Thats great, but how many black dudes do you see getting signed with a rock n roll band and being played on top 40 radio and performing on the American Music Awards?? I don't see it. Just because they are not part of the AMERICAN mainstream does not mean they are not part of some other county's mainstream. Rage Against The Machine for instance are a lot more popular overseas than they are here. A couple of years ago they even topped the UK charts with 'Killing In The Name Of...'. Then there is Vic Johnson, Sammy Hagar's guitarist. A guy who has played in various heavy metal bands before hitting up with The Red Rocker such as The Busboys & Total Eclipse (both bands did not feature anyone who was white). Even actress Jada Pinkett Smith (wife of Will Smith) fronts a heavy metal band called Wicked Wisdom who have played at Ozzfest. Sepultura have shifted 20 million units worldwide whom MTV dubbed 'The Most Important Heavy Metal Band Of The 90's', Lenny Kravitz has won many awards including Grammy's & MTV awards, in 2006 God Forbid won an award from The American Music Industry for 'To The Fallen Hero'. I could go on. Just because these bands (the one's I named) are not played on the radio stations you listen to or the TV stations you watch does not mean they are not in the mainstream because they are. You just have to look in the right places. An interesting song was released by Mother's Finest in 1976 called 'Niggazz Can't Sing Rock N' Roll' (which was subsequently banned by people who did not listen to it) which was written by the band to show that they CAN (& do) play rock n' roll. Look outside of the crap that is in the American Top 40 or any other media-hyped TV show & you will find that there are many, many rock bands with black members who are pretty successful.

I guarantee you all of them will know who Eminem is. You would be lucky as fuck to have one know who Vic Johnson is. Or even Sepultra. Fuck I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know who Rage against the Machine was. LOL

Rap is predominant in the culture right now black or white. Just like when rock first started there was probably some old dude wondering why the white kids were all supporting the Negros. You should just start a thread that says "I'm a little racist and misogynist and hate new music anyone with me?" and save some time.
A lot of young kids black and white like rock but most are into rap, hip hop and R&B. I don't care. I like some of it but mostly listen to rock. It makes it easier to get tickets. I like it.
