[glow=red,2,300]Sexual energy of the guitar player…I don’t see that in a lot of young players. It’s almost like they are afraid to let that come out in their playing. That’s why I think there’s so much angst…cause there is a sexual tension. And it’s like, ‘Maybe you should listen to a bit more blues.’ Music has gone from the waist, down…to the neck, up.” -Ian Astbury: The Cult[/glow]
I could not have said it better myself. In fact, I've been TRYING to find the right words. These words are perfect.

I concure.
One guy comes to mind instantly. "Zakk Wylde". Truly, heartless and clinical. I just don't get his style at all.

Back about 20 years ago I was working with a guy who was very religious & said that rock music satanic. I always got along with the guy & always had fun arguing with him about music being satanic, One day he brought in this book by Fletcher Brothers about the subject & I enjoyed the book with all these examples which were beyond stupid (even Springsteen & Billy Joel were in there!) Anyway, the book mentioned that Hendrix & Steve Miller were the work of Satan not only for there drug reference lyrics but because both would simulate masturbation on there guitars so I guess players were more sexual with there guitars. This picture of Bowie & Mick Ronson says it all!!

Ian mentions Bowie in the interview.
Here's the whole thing (of the second half of the interview): The part of today's music is at the end.

I aint saying Rock needs to be a little bit more “gay” (even though I said that on Facebook to be funny)… But some more flamboyancy, sexuality and daringness would be nice. All these hard rock bands today are afraid to let their freak flag fly…in fear of looking “gay.” Did Bowie, The New York Dolls, The Cult, David Lee Roth, Robert Plant, Jim Morrison and others keep all that bottled up inside so the rednecks wouldn’t make fun of them? Hell no. They let it all hang out (some more literal than others). And the music became interesting…instead of stiff and boring like Shinedown. Just my opinion.
