Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler not only jammed with Led Zeppelin following that band’s celebrated 2007 reunion, but was asked by Jimmy Page to write a record with them and he turned the offer down.
Tyler dropped the Zeppelin bombshell on Howard Stern’s show early Tuesday morning, while making the media rounds in NYC to promote American Idol’s launch Wednesday night.
Stern: Did you audition for Led Zeppelin?
Tyler: Ya, I went over there and played with them.
Stern: But doesn’t that piss off Joe when you’re gonna leave Aerosmith and go be with Led Zeppelin?
Tyler: Of course it does. No, I spoke to Jimmy – actually, I spoke with his manager Peter Mensch, who’s been a good friend of mine forever, gave him his first job. And he said that they’d just played live and Robert wouldn’t play with them again, and ‘wanna come over and jam with the guys?’ I went ‘Hello!?!’ So, I went over and played.
So, look at me now: not only did I sing to McCartney, but I played with Zeppelin. So, I’m in heaven.
And, by the way, when I looked Jimmy in the eyes and it came time to...'you wanna write a record with me?’ I went, ‘No'
Stern: To Jimmy Page? Why not?
Tyler: Because I’m in Aerosmith. He’s the biggest band in the world and so am I in a band like that. I have such an allegiance to my band and I love it so much.

Why does he sing when he talks? He's turned into Little Richard.

Thank God. Steve must have a few Brain Cells left. That would have sucked BADLY IMO.

And, by the way, when I looked Jimmy in the eyes and it came time to...'you wanna write a record with me?’ I went, ‘No' Page's version of events is entirely different according to Classic Rock magazine & Joe Perry. Apparently the band told Tyler to go home after he complained the new music they were working on did not have any hits! Also Joe Perry has claimed Tyler was rejected because he could not remember the lyrics to Zeppelin songs also stating the rehearsals were 'shambolic'.

Zep should ask Coverdale or Ann Wilson.

So my question is, Where does Steve go from here?
Seriously...what's next?...a talk show perhaps? That's about as good as it would, or could get, for the guy at this point I would suspect?
After this little gig, does he now dust himself off, jump back up on stage, reunite with the band, record a new album with them, hit the charts and resume his career as a rock star? Something tells me that isn't going to happen.
That'd be like thinking Paula whatsherhasbeen name has a shot at achieving the same thing.
Good to see that he's got his collective shit together and I for one wish him all the best in his present and future endeavours.
I just wonder though, somewhere in the deep, dark chambers of this mans mind, is he actually thinking that this is just a time out or sabbatical of sorts until the musical urge strikes once again? Good luck to him if he does.
Thankfully, the fans have the albums and the memories of the group performing live in past concerts to keep them going.
Thanks Kim

Right on! I stand corrected. Hopefully this will be another fine release from the Aerosmith troupe and I'm sure that should there be a scheduling conflict of sorts betwixt American Idol and the bands upcoming tour dates, Steve should have little problem working out the finer details in order to hit the road once again without losing money due to his contractual obligations with the show. This is good news, and I anxiously await the new release upon it's completion. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to head'er over to eBay and see what they have for sale in terms of a decent AM Radio. Awwww...I'm just kiddin'... ;D Thanks Kim
