What was the reason why rock was more popular in the 80's amongst women than in todays society?
Good question and one I suspect that there is no definitive answer.
Same as asking, why did women of the 80's find Pop Tart's a better breakfast then compared to a Nutri- Bar these days?
Why did women wear leggin's and wear their hair big with a post Farrah Fawcett look about it...big curls fluffed out all over the place with the obligatory, overly emphasized, yet slowly receeding "poofy" bang in place above their foreheads?
The gals of today, compared to the gals of the 80's, still march to the beat of their own drummer and for some reason, guys just don't get it.
They liked what they did because it was up to them.
Same as today. It's up to them. They like what they like, and enjoy it the way in which they feel comfortable with.
What? do the guys think that it was somehow controlled by
the male population on a certain level? HA!
Of course women of the 80's loved Metal...it was all part of
the ritual. Survival of the species and gender.
Some may not have been fans on the same level as most
of the guys were...but keep in mind..."GUYS" tend to do things
to excess and to the extreme. The gals then, as they do
these days, simply enable us...and use it as part of the
overall "plan".
Could you imagine where any of us, or our offspring would be had
it not been for women carefully controlling and manipulating the way in which the mating ritual would be defined as we knew it then in the 80's or even know with the younger generation.
The women were smart enough however to pick and choose the music that would serve them and US as well as it has.
Bon Jovi in the 80's, as an example set the bar and proved to be leverage to the average male back in the day. The women made it apparent that this was their "ideal mate" on a general level.
So, what did the "averagel" male do? He went out and fluffed his hair up and learned to move to the groove so to speak in order
to relate. Just look at the pictures from the era.
Awwww....granted, there were holdouts, "your's truly" being one of them, but that didn't stop the movement. The gals set their
standard and the next thing you knew...so and so, begat so and so...
Now! we have some pretty wacky, bored, and otherwise content
"skate borders" as the next generation and along with it, comes a whole new set of rules, criteria and levels of acceptance for those of the male population that will eventually lead to the continuation
and proliferation of the species...and the music has a hand in the
way in which it's being handed down.
Question today's music all you want...but you won't change it.
Back then, the music had a different meaning and made
a different impression in regards to life and the world that
we live in and it's up to the 18-29 year old demographics to make
their way and "pave their way"...just like when it was our turn.
*Sounds kinda scientific doesn't it*?
Maybe it is.
Maybe that's why there is no ONE single explanation as to why the women of the 80's liked what they did...similar to the women of the 70's...the 60's...the 50's...the 40's...............need I go on?
The thing I like is that, although my day has come and gone regarding the music that speaks for me and my generation,
every once in awhile, a song will come along that kind of harkens
back to my past, my earlier years...the time when my thoughts
and feelings were being represented by those that I held in
high power in regards to music.
With that being imposed, I also like to think that some of what
we went through, lived, and enjoyed along the way, has somehow found it's way through osmosis, if you will, proving that the the apple never falls far from the tree...
Now, had I ever had the opportunity to have kids of my own...I certainly would have played ball with them all the while having
BTO or Status Quo blasting out of the speakers...........
Uhmmm yeah... my kids would have made piss poor skate board
type dudes!...hahaha
Anyway, sorry Blue...no answer here from me........
Thanks
