1978 was another interesting year...Hey!!!...The Cars!!! Not only that, but Speedy must have been thrilled with Gene's solo release? Molly Hatchet hit the ground running as well! Me?... I was impressed with TOTO and Van Halen's debut...not to mention Dire Straights intro into the rock world... I have to say, I really enjoyed this year...in more ways than one. College life was a blast! Thanks Kim

Here Goes... What was great about '78? Christmas of '77 brought me Kiss Alive II(as I'm typing this I am wearing my Kiss Alive II T Shirt) which was an unbelievable thrill for me. Opening that album & seeing that amazing live photo on the gatefold full with lights & fire mixed with the Evolution of Kiss book which was included & the tattoos which came with it...I was already blown away before I even listened to the Record!!! January of '78 was unreal as I was still riding high on Alive II...Kiss was coming to War Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo on January 25th & I was going(My first Concert ever!!!!)Leading up to the show on NBC one night in mid January Edwin Newman hosted a special called 'The Land of Hype & Glory" & Kiss was the main feature for about 20 minutes. The show was amazing & I seen 3 other concerts that year Cheap Trick w/ 1994, Aerosmith w/ AC/DC, & Triumph w/ Talas. My favorite album of all-time was released in' 78 which is 'Some Girls' by the Stones. Another album which changed me was 'The Alice Cooper Show' I never really heard him at the time (although my one sister was into him in the early 70's so I probably did hear at least I'm 18 because I found 'Love it to Death' around the house) but I bought it because of the cover with the guillotine & him wearing make-up. The live version of "I'm Eighteen" kicked ass with an amazing guitar exchange between Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter. I was into Cooper almost as much as Kiss.I was also heavy into Aerosmith, Triumph, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Starz, Angel, Ted Nugent, Journey, Foreigner,Cheap Trick. Also, that year a friend gave me an address from the classified section of Rolling Stone which was a place called Pied Piper Records. I got this catalog in the mail & it was full of all of these live albums I never heard of. I ordered one called 'Kiss Takes Tokyo' & in about a month I received the record. It was in a plain white cardboard cover & had a Paper insert with a B & W picture of the band & album title on blue paper. (It kind of looked like a flyer). I was psyched so I pulled out the record & the label read "Dragonfly Records Presents: Sounds of the 60's" "What the hell was this? " I Thought to myself & I put the record on "Alright Tokyo!! You Wanted the Best You got the best..." The sound on the record was not what I expected but it was so cool hearing a full Kiss Show...Yes, I later found out it was my first Bootleg Record Another Highlight was Me & Spanky Madoo taking one of our weekly walks to the mall to go to the Spaceport arcade & play either The Playboy Pinball Machine or the Ted Nugent 'Weekend Warrior' Pinball Machine. We stopped by Cavages Records & Tapes & there on display in the front window was a beautiful display of Kiss Double Platinum. I couldn't believe the rush I got seeing the beautiful shiny silver gatefold open of the cover & the cardboard Platinum Record award which came with the record but neither one of us had enough money(we were only 15) so it was disappointing. I got home & my father offered me & Spanky money if we cut down the weeds way in the back of our yard. We cut them down & we both went back out & bought the record. Also in 1978 I was constantly buying every Creem,Rock Scene,Hit Parader, Rock, Super Rock, Grooves, & Circus that was available. Rock & Roll was taking over my LIfe

Another great thread, Kim! (Sorry I coudn't answer your '72 one)
This is when I began moving away from the Bay City Rollers. Yipee!
Ace Frehley - S/T (I LOVED this album. Ace has always been my fave Kiss member...Paul rates a close second) The Cars - We had a very cool bus, and my best friend Allison had an older brother and sister, so she was always "lifting" their 8-tracks. When she popped this into the bus stereo, she had everyone rocking. Three cheers for older siblings! Styx - Pieces of Eight (my lil girlie heart fell madly in love with Tommy Shaw)
I can't recall what else...I do know maybe Foreigner. I recall hearing them on the radio. Friday night (before that lame program directing reared its ugly head), a really cool DJ would play his fave records on our rinky dinky small town radio station, so I'd tune in to hear what he was spinning.
Was a year for discovering what else existed besides "boy bands."

I figured 1978 was about the first year I REALLY got into music. Yeah, I know I was only 6 years old, but I needed my music fix. Wasn't Rock though. Oak Ridge Boys, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, Tom T Hall, Larry Gatlin...... that was what I was listening to in 1978.

Well, JUST ABOUT EVERY CORNER STONE ROCK'N ROLL ALBUM CAME INTO BEING!
Quite possibly the best year in music for me. The rock'n roll was incredible:
VAN HALEN! -Van Halen!
POWERAGE! -Ac/Dc
HEAT IN THE STREET! -Pat Travers
TOKYO TAPES! -Scorpions
HELL BENT FOR LEATHER! -Judas Priest
WEEK-END WARRIORS! -Ted Nugent
COLLISEUM ROCK! -Starz
OBSESSION! -UFO-
SOME GIRLS! -Rolling Stones
FACE TO FACE! -Angel City
1978 was year that I went to my first concert. ...first time I ever left town without my folks. A wild ride to Oakland Colliseum with whacked out teenagers. I lived through it somehow.
