No getting away from this one Jesse... As I can recall... cruising down the road in my 75' Monte Carlo...new cassette deck intact... Alan Parson's "Eye in the Sky", Fleetwood Mac's "Mirage", Tull's "Broadsword and the Beast" and Kate Bush's "The Dreaming" were just a few that had my attention back then. You folks?... Thanks Kim

In the mid/late 70's through the early 80's Hard Rock/Metal was basically all I cared about musically (& the Stones). By 1982 things had changed for me especially after attending a Pat Benatar concert. David Johansen opened the show & I was blown away by his performance. I only knew one song he did which was the title track from his 'Here Comes the Night' album (not the Van Morrison tune) & that was because I heard it earlier that day on the radio for the first time. Anyway, I became obsessed with Johansen's music & the NY Dolls once I realized Johansen was the singer. That branched me off to discovering the solo work of ex NY Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders whom I also became obsessed. So now besides all of the great metal which was going on for me at the time (Kiss made a huge comeback for my tastes with 'Creatures of the Night', Iron Maiden released 'The Number of the Beast, Judas Priest really hit it big with Screaming for Vengeance, Kerrang Magazine was going strong & I was heavy into the whole NWOBHM) I was really getting into the Punk/New Wave scene as well. MTV was also influencing my tastes in music with stuff by the Stray Cats whom I became obsessed with & started buying their import albums. One night in '82 they had a Dave Edmunds concert on MTV which blew me away so I became a fan & loved his DE 7th album. I was also really getting into the blues. I had seen Clapton live & the day after the concert I was working at a Grocery store & was talking to some friends about the concert. This older customer who looked like Frank Zappa came up to me & said he overheard me talking about the show but he was more concerned about the opening band...The Fabulous Thunderbirds. He started talking about blues & told me he was going to make a tape for me. The next day he came in with a cassette & told me "Play this tape on your car stereo, bring a girl, & a joint & you'll get laid" The tape was full of tunes by Freddy King,Albert King,Albert Collins,Jimmy Reed, Lightning Hopkins...etc. It was amazing stuff & I did take a girl out but I wasn't a pot smoker so I didn't get laid I was also seeing bands such as Kim Mitchell, Paul Pope & Teenage Head in the clubs that year

Great topic, Kim!
Was totally into the canuck bands...although I didn't realise they hailed from the Great White North at the time. Funny how that goes. Here I thought they were FAMOUS everywhere! Maybe they were? No idea. All I know is I was digging :
Toronto - Get it on Credit April Wine - Nature of the Beast ('81 record, but I was still playing it!) Headpins - Turn It Loud (I turned it even louder!) Anvil - Metal on Metal Fist - Hot Spikes (I was introduced to this band around this time. Loved 'em!) Harlequin - One False Move (a record I wore out since I loved it so much) Aldo Nova - S/T Streetheart - S/T
and also...
Scorpions - Blackout (another record I almost wore out. My top pick for that year as my fave album.
Probably lots I left out LOL. I just recall listening to a lot of British, European and Canadian bands through the early 80's.

1981 and 1982 were my first experiments with Rock music (had listened to Country exclusively before then. I would listen to the local top 40 station and the likes of:
John Cougar-Jack And Diane Steve Miller Band-Abracadabra Rolling stones-Start Me Up Foreigner-Juke Box Hero Blondie-The Tide Is High Billy Joel-Pressure
Not sure what else. I stopped listening to Rock top 40 about the time that Thompson Twins, Micheal Jackson and Culture Club entered the scene in late 1982.
I still liked my Country music and was starting to get a record collection going including the likes of :
The Oak Ridge Boys, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels Band (they were hitting the Country charts at the time, but I still contend that they were and still are a Rock band!), Hank Williams Jr.
I had only heard of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers through Charlie Daniels' song "The South's Gonna Do It". I only heard of Molly Hatchet because I remember seeing their T-shirts at the mall in the 1982 equivilant of "Hot Topic".
