Noo, not that gawd awful tv. show. I mean the band. I can't believe I overlooked them all these years. Yes, I fell into the "Oh, that Eye of the Tiger band?" category.
But once I began digging through their catologue, I was impressed. Stand-out albums, for me, are: their self-titled, Premontion, Too Hot to Sleep, and When Seconds Count. Okay, I enjoy them all. There's not a dud in the pack.
Very cool how they managed to keep the band going with changes in singers. I like 'em both, but I'm sorta partial to Jimi Jamison. I'm also rather liking his solo work.
Any other Survivor fans here?

Yes indeed! Liked all their stuff from Premonition, up until Too Hot To Sleep. Never got a copy of Reach, as I heard mixed reports, lame album, weak mix, etc, but now Jimi Jamison has moved on, but working on and off with former Survivor member and major contributor, Jim Peterik. Last year Jimi Jamison released 'Crossroads Moment,' an album written mostly by Jim Peterik and has been raved about by many classic Survivor fans, although I've not heard it. I did see Survivor last year and reviewed the gig here though: www.classicrockrevisited.com/concertsurvivor.htmThey were good and Robin McAuley ex-Grand Prix (UK band) and ex-M.S.G. is a great fit! It's funny as I'd seen the band live - and reviewed that too! - after he'd just joined them back in 2006 and back then, I wasn't so sure it was a good fit. Read that review here: classicrock.about.com/od/artistsnz/a/survivor_review.htmI like both Survivor's material and MSG and Grand Prix (With McAuley) and without doubt he's a way better fit with the band now, a few years on. Supposedly there is a new album due out soon, according to Frankie Sullivan through the bands site: survivormusic.com/There you go! Al chambersofrock.blogspot.com/

Jim was one of the key figures on the music scene in the 70’s and 80’s forming the popular horn- rock band The Ides Of march at the age of 15 and singing and writing that band’s platinum number one hit in 1970, “Vehicle”. (You may remember this song by the signature call- to- arms horn riff at the top and Jim’s growling first line. “I’m the friendly stranger in the black sedan, won’t you hop inside my car”. From there Jim went on to form one of the most influential bands in rock- Survivor. Beside co- penning all of Survivor’s hits including “High On You”, “I Can’t Hold Back, “The Search Is Over”, “Burning Heart, “Is This Love”, and of course the multi- platinum, Grammy- winning theme from Rocky III, “Eye Of The Tiger”, Jim also chalked up top 10 hits with 38 Special including “Hold On Loosely”, “Caught Up In You”, “Rockin’ Into The Night”, “Wild- Eyed Southern Boys”, “Fantasy Girl” and many more. With Sammy Hagar he co- wrote the platinum theme from the sci- fi animation feature, “Heavy Metal”. Jim’s other co- writes reads like a who’s who of aor rock- Lynyrd Skynrd, Van Vant, Aerosmith, John Wetton, Cheap Trick, Uriah Heep, REO Speedwagon, David Carl, Kelly Keagy, Kevin Chalfant, Joseph Williams, Mecca, Fergie Fredrickson and many more.

If the new music ever comes out I'll buy, love Robin's sound and if Frankie lets him write as well, he's a great lyracist too.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize Robin was a part of the band now. Loved him with MSG. Hopefully he will be recording a new album with them. DreamTide, I'll be sure to check out Pride of Lions!

I don't think anybody realized how good Survivor was as they kinda slipped into that "Faceless AOR" catagory of music in the '80's. However, the fact that they predated most, if not all, of the bands they sounded like tells you that they may have had quite an influence on up and coming artists back in the day. "Too Hot To Sleep" was always my favorite Survivor album, but all of their albums were pretty good. If nothing else can be said about them, they were consistant.

If nothing else can be said about them, they were consistant. consistently bad Sorry. Maybe if I grew up owning the albums, maybe they would be sentimental to me. All I knew were the hits back then, and they never did anything for me. I liked Giuffria in the 80s...and now they sound dated and kinda silly. But there's a connection I still feel to Silk + Steel. I bust that CD out from time to time. In no way would I start listening to that CD for the 1st time ever now, tho.
