Everything must go back to Bush, huh? I wasn't asking about Bush. I seem to recall being lectured by a certain someone North of our border how Obama was going to "save us" cuz he's "so smart". Now, 1 year into his term things are no better here in the USA, in fact, I believe things are worse. I never claimed Bush was some kind of Messiah come down from the Heavens to save us from the Clinton Presidency, but YOU and others like you have made similar claims about Obama. Now one year later, what has he done? You tell me. He's the guy YOU WANTED US TO HAVE. What the fuck has he done? You don't like people who don't live in Canada lecturing you about Canada's health care system? Well, I don't like people who don't live in the United States lecturing me on what's best for my Country. Tell me what Obama's done right or stop posting on these threads.
You want to talk Bush, ok, here goes: Bush hardly makes my list of great Presidents, but the economy stayed pretty darned strong during his admistration despite inheriting a recession in early 2001 and the 9/11 attacks late in 2001. Bush never had the super majorities of his own party in Congress like Obama has enjoyed this past year. In fact, Democrats controlled the Senate his first 2 years and his last 2 years and Democrats held BOTH houses of Congress from January 2007 onward. In other words: Bush couldn't do a damn thing without, at least some, Democrat support. Yes, Bush piled up a lot of debt, but Obama has tripled that debt IN ONE YEAR! One can argue that Bush jumped the gun in going to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, but that willingness to go to war kept Iran and North Korea in check. Now, both nations are giving us the finger and trying to get Nuclear weapons cuz they don't fear Obama taking action against them. Bush was by no means great. I hate defending him as I only voted for him cuz I thought a President Gore or a President Kerry would've been worse. I didn't vote for Obama, but I wasn't exactly enamored with the possiblity of a President McCain. I keep giving Obama chances to prove he is this great President that everyone said he would be, but I'm not seeing it. If you can give me specific examples that he is, do so. If not stick to Rock'n Roll.
Jesse, it's frustrating isn't it?
You have people adding their worthless 2 cents on whom
they'd like to see win a political race, different reasons from those
that actually have the right to vote on them...unlike ME!
Just an opinion from an outsider, but one nonetheless, that actually cares about what happens in your homeland. The outcome of such
a leadership race does have impact on us as well, and maybe I'm
a little more concerned than the average "Someone North Of The Border"
should be?
Maybe I had images of the Star Spangled Banner" in my eyes when
Obama was cast into his present role, which included not only
fixing what was broke on the spot, but holding him true to his word
about change on a much larger level. Also, giving hope to many that
never thought they'd see the day when someone "different" from the past, would actually, finally have the chance to do so.
The entire outcome struck a chord with me and I, such as yourself
was hoping that things would get a lot better, a lot quicker.
It hasn't happened yet...and that, truly is unfortunate.
Trust me, I understand.
However. as I look around at the rest of the map, things haven't gotten much better on any given political stage, unless you include China, which is going so fast in an economy that is foreign to them on many levels, that they themselves, don't even have a clue as to what's happening?...Yet!
(Well, they do, but just not letting on...so as to misguide the rest of the world).
Also, whose to say whether or not Gore or Kerry would have made
a difference? Nothing against Bush, but he had 8 years and by the
sounds of it, has made a good deal of difference to many, yourself included, to the point where it was a good deal for you personaly?
I don't recall "lecturing" anyone on the possibilities and probable outcome
of the Obama administration?
I may have stated my hopes and opinions like anyone else, but to "lecture"...I'd need a banner in my arms for that sort of thing.
Now, that he's in office however, myself, like the rest of you haven't been witness to much happening as of yet.
Do I still hold out hope? Yes! of course I do...and I agree, it's been over
a year now, and we all seem to be stuck in a quagmire of economical turmoil, debt, and unemployment like we've never seen before.
I say, give the man at least another year into his 4 year term...Bush
had 8 years over 2 terms. Bad luck on Obama's part for coming into the
office at such a bad time globaly as he did.
Same thing is going on here in Canada. In fact, as I mentioned, our
disenchanted leader has pretty much turned the lights out in his office
and decided that the country can run itself??? Priding himself on celebrating a winter sporting event and continuing to concentrate
on not having one hair out of place on his "Ken Doll" like head.
Keep in mind, what happens in your part of the country, pretty much dictates what eventually comes to pass in ours. So, yeah...I'm hoping for the best for you folks...as it's a Win/Win situation when we're all on the same page.
Anyway, I can't tell you what "Obama has done right"...I know that he's trying a few things, and getting flak from his own people, Health Care as an example. I'm going to state here and now that it may in fact, may not be a good thing for you folks if you don't want it...and that's a great thing if you can decide either way...that's called Democracy!
Whatever works for the those that chose to vote on an issue such as this, majority rules and if further politics get in the way to stymie the outcome, that's when the entire process begins to break down.
As far as the economy goes, regardless of who's in charge, I think we all have to realize that coming out of this rut we're collectively in, will see a change in the way in which we may have to do things?
It certainly won't be return to "the good ole days", they're gone!
We all have to revamp and retool not only our business accumen, but our ways of thinking in order to compete with the ever growing global forces that are just aching to take over what we once knew as prosperity on our own turf.
I hope Obama will be there to take at least some credit. If not, sarcasm aside, it won't be long until election time rolls around and we are given the democratic opportunity to once again ask someone else to help lead us in the right direction. If it's Palin, hey!...I'll stand behind her if she can make a difference and make it better for the nation! I don't care who it is...just make it right and get the job done without hurting those that have stood behind you, and those that may be proud to walk beside you without causing further grief in order to get there.
I said the same thing about our newly formed minority Conservative
government...and stated to some against him, that, let's give him a chance. Did I vote for him? NO! Would I vote for him now? NO!
His recent record over the last 18+ months have solidified my reasoning as to why I am not of the Conservative cloth loving colours.
To simply, up and stop Parliament, in order to hedge a bet that by the time he returns, the economy is much better, simply indicates to me, that the man is more of a gambler than he is a purveyor in helping
his constituents return to a better way of life in Canada.
In doing so, and if things do turn around, he'll be seen as a pariah,
and come forth with a majority government with the next election.
This to me is joke and one that is played out at the expense of
it's electorate.
At least your guy shows up at the office everyday!
On a final note Jesse, I'm more concerned that I've caused a rift
in our friendship here that goes back many a year, even to the
old days with Jeb's site.
I responded to this original thread of yours, not to attack anyone here
and I can't see where I have.
Simply stating my view, and as forthright as it may seem, also thought that I was helping out in allowing for some controversy to mayyyyybe getting a few more people
involved and posting to a thread on the board...(Hey! Speedy likes that sorta stuff...hahaha).
Anyway, as requested, I'll refrain from further response to this and any other politicaly inspired threads either from you or the
other great folks on the forum.
I'll keep my comments to the "Rock & Roll" forum and cease and desist posting on these threads.
Thanks
Kim
