Les Paul by a long shot in my book. Strats are cool, once a Strat man always a Strat man. Gibson Explorers are my favs though

Les Pauls are awesome. Nothing else sounds quite like it, but as a guitar player, lately I'm really digging Strats. Strats are a good barometer of the guitar player. See if Speedy backs me up on this, but if you can wail on a Strat you're one hell of a guitar player. With Les Pauls, you get those humbuckers going and crank up the distortion a bit and almost anyone can sound good.

I'm not much of a player myself, but I do prefer Strats.

However I don't really like either one, these days I am pretty much into hybrids. The Fender scale length just plain sounds better to ME than the Gibson. My current choice of guitar is a Schecter... Mahongany with a Maple top, bound neck like a Les Paul...BUT it has a Fender scale and is Strat shaped....BUT it has Humbuckers, with a coil tap to make them singles...BUT has 24 frets, more than either a Les Paul or Strat. IMO if you want a great guitar but don't want to break the bank Schecters and ESP/LTD are 2 brands that make great instruments. Better than anything from Gibson or Fender these days. I always wanted a Les Paul because of my love of ACE Frehley...found out that they are very uncomfortable for me.

Looks alot like a typical Ibanez. Thru neck, plays like a strat, but has humbuckers to get a similar sound to a Les Paul. Also has coil splitters for "Strat-like" tones. 24 frets. I have a Jimi Hendrix strat that sounds like a gift from God, but it only has 20 frets making it tough to use in my cover band. I can get a lot of good sounds out of the Showmaster and with 24 frets can hit all the notes. Until I got my "magic" Line 6 guitar, the Showmaster was my #1 guitar. I think they made a Korean model, a Mexican model and an American model. I bought the Korean model because it was the cheapest and I've been happy with it for 5 years now.

Hey guys do my eyes deceive me? But isn't that a picture of an Epiphone Les Paul and not a Gibson? Not that it matters for the sake of this topic. I kept looking at the headstock and something wasn't right.
