I have a lot of respect for John Bonham. But Neil Peart imo was a better musician.

No question about this one for me...Neil Peart
I never thought much of Bonham & feel his solo in Moby Dick just killed the whole song. I love the music in Moby Dick but to me that solo is boring & it sucks. The only good thing he did was the begining drum roll on the STUDIO version of "Rock & Roll" & that was a rip off from Little Richard's "Keep a Knockin".
I Know Bonham has a lot of fans so maybe I'm missing something. Back in '77 I was just discovering hard rock & always seen Zep in all the magazines but hadn't heard them so when I heard they were going to be on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert along with Kiss I was psyched. Kiss came on & they blew me away (They lip synced a few songs from RnR Over but I didn't realize it at the time I was blown away by the whole Kiss show & i had never seen them perform). Then the mighty zep was on(I believe it was something from the Song Remains the Same movie) & I was so disappointed.I thought the drumming sounded awful!!!
Sorry if I bashed anyone's hero but this is just my opinion. I love alot of Zeppelin tunes & those tunes I really Love. I can probably squeeze those tunes on a 80 minute cd but other than those tunes I could care less about anything else.

Peart, hands down. Rush as a whole were/are better live performers than Led Zeppelin ever was. ......and keep in mind, I LOVE Led Zeppelin and am not much of a Rush fan.

neil wins by a mile.
Bonham is actually quite overrated IMO. The MAIN reason he gets so many props is that ZEP were able to record drums very well. The drum sounds on their albums were light years ahead of their peers at the time. Listen to the drums on early Sabbath then listen to Zep. WAY better drum sounds.
This is not to say Bonzo was not GOOD....but there are plenty of guys who were better in that era. He is very influential though.

Bonham was an amazing drummer....no doubt about that, but Peart was much more dynamic and to my ears more musical as a drummer. Peart wins for me....

I like Bonham's sound (thanks to Jimmy Page I suppose), and he is a good drummer... one of my favorites... but I personally like Ian Paice more than Bonham...
But compared to Neil Peart... no comparison in my book... 2 different styles of playing, and I absolutely love Neil Peart's playing... not many come close in my mind.

John was a primal drummer, more caveman like, which is BETTER for the ROCK world. He was not a very technical drummer like Neil Peart is, Neil IS the better drummer here, no question, and still ALIVE which makes it easier to drum.
