Great f'n Band. I seen them with April Wine around '81 & they were incredible. I have just about everything they released & it's really hard to pick a favorite ...possibly 'Close Enough for Rock & Roll' I liked last years release 'The Newz'

I have Hair of the Dog and love it. Which one should be next? Hard question because Hair of the Dog doesn't really represent the music of the band very well. Probably their most "metal" album. They were usually much blusier BUT a personal fave is EXPECT NO MERCY.

One idiot here, I don't own a thing by them...not even an mp3 of "Hair Of The Dog" for my iPod. I saw the Manny Charlton version of Nazareth last year opening for Blackfoot and it didn't seem like I was missing much. Not entirely bad, mind you, but they gave me no desire to go out and purchase any Narareth music either.

What I heard never did anything for me...so I've never bought one thing by them.

Just for the info that would be like seeing "Blackfoot" without Medlocke and deciding they suck. Blackfoot WAS without Rick Medlocke and they were great! If you recall my review of them last year, I gave props to Nazareth's singer. I saw a few youtube clips of the official Nazareth with their original singer and I didn't think he was as good. By they way, I never said they "sucked", I just didn't feel I needed any Nazareth in my collection. I could be wrong. Rattle off a half dozen or so songs that'll change my opinion and I'll download 'em off iTunes and possibly change my mind. Wouldn't be the first time as I didn't 'get" Kansas or Blue Oyster Cult back when I saw them in concert in the mid '90's, now, they are 2 of my favorites.

Speedy nailed it..."underrated band".
This "idiot" also has Loud N Proud and anyone looking for a representation of some consistently fast paced, kick ass music, this is the one to get.
An instant party on a disc in my opinion.
The first 6 tracks simply rock...!!! One of the few albums that I've heard that does this...usually, you catch a break by track 3...not here!
Track 1 "Go Down Fighting" is pretty much an "open your beer and lets get started cuz we're setting the pace here. "Love song" my ass! ha!!!!!!!!
Track 2 "Not Faking It" maintains the pace...and has you trying to keep up with the lyrics...and the vocal harmonic chorus. Yeah, just try and reach Dan's pitch on this one.
Track 3 "Turn on Your Receiever", most have heard this one on the "Greatest Hits" release, and again maintains the pace but can be considered a little more "dance" friendly. Nice little guitar solo at the 2/3rds mark, and albeit a short one...completes the song nicely.
Track 4 "Teenage Nervous Breakdown"...again...maintaining the pace...no rest for the listener...Naz is having a blast playing the track...frenetic to a degree, at least for that time period, but held together quite well with all cylinders firing in sync!
Track 5 "Free Wheeler", the pace knocked down by about 2 iota's yet backs itself up with the driving force of an 18 wheeler on a 900 mile journey with a full load. Great dance track! The culmination of all of the instruments on this track are outstanding. Underrated in my opinion.
Track 6 "This Flight Tonight"...what can I say... classic track! The quirky climax of the song actually works...go figure?
Track 7 "Child In The Sun" brings it all back down to earth and finally, FINALLY, allows the more subdued and bluesier aspect of the band to shine through. A precursor to "Love Hurts" no doubt. Dan realized that he had some "crooner" abilities in his repertoire.
Track 8 "The Ballad of Hollis Brown", very dark, quite heavy and again shows that when Naz slows it down...they do it in style... almost to a psychedelic degree.
I can't think of another album that has the same energy that this one has in it's lineup...even compared to "greatest hits" from other artists? The boys in the band surely must have been "hyped" to the gills on the day that this compilation was recorded...
What an album!!!
Thanks Kim
