Both of these classics came out in 1980, both were established bands with new lead singers, both kick ass albums. Which one was/is the best?

This is kind of weird for me because I loved both albums when they came out. Brian Johnson seemed pretty cool & his voice reminded me a bit of Dan McCafferty of Nazareth(whom I was a big fan of) & I loved Dio in Rainbow so him replacing Ozzy was great.I seen both bands live during this era & thought both sucked! It seemed like everytime Iommi went into a solo there wasn't 7 seconds that would go by that Dio would let out a "Yeahhh!!!" or an "OOOHHHH!!" or an "Ooooh Yeahhhhh!!!". Brian Johnson was pretty annoying as well. For the record I seen Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour & they were better. I seen AC/DC around '86 & they were basically the same as before with Johnson.
As I said I love both albums but I'll go with 'Heaven & Hell'

Heaven and Hell....hands down. Same here. Flawless and timeless album. Back in Black is great also, but not in the above league.

I prefer 'Flick Of The Switch' when it comes to Brian Johnson era albums. 'Back In Black' is a great record, but I would have to go with Sabbath here. 'Flick Of The Swith' might get my vote depending on what day it is.

H&H is my fave here. I am an Iommi junkie....Angus not so much.
Both great albums though.

Heaven and Hell. The title track and Die Young by themselves would still be better than Back in Black!!

I'd have to say that for me at least, "Back In Black" had more of an emmotional impact.
I suppose the main reason was, again in my opinion, the AC/DC camp appeared to be paying hommage to their former band mate. It made a lot of sense to me to hear that they chose someone that was in the same neighbourhood in terms of vocals for starters...quite close actually, waaaaaaay back then...and for me, it made sense. They also proved their collective worth over the earlier subsequent years.
Anyway, the album seemed to have some substance in regards to the way in which the band carried on as they had no choice...unlike the Sabbath situation... Ozzy wasn't dead...just departed???
I guess the sappy aspect of my personality tends to sometimes take over and make decions based on the issues as such...and in this case...yeah, I'll have to stick with AC/DC on this one...man those "bells" just give me a shiver...they stuck to their guns.
I do have to interject however at this point...and wonder...would Bon Scott's vocal chords have held out better than Brian's have over the years...had he survived that incident?
Thanks Kim
