"Makes No Difference" by miles. Why? Because this was the song that hinted at what great stuff was to come. As for the album (Pat's first) it is by far the most mediocre of PT's 70's out put. Everything after wards, "Making Magic," Putting it Straight," "Heat in the Street," & "Go For What You Know," were masterpieces.
Btw, Pat recorded the first one in 10 days, at the behest of Polydor. That was almost unheard of back then. Hence, an album of covers done to death even then, & so so originals, except for " Makes No Difference."

I don't see "Makin Magic" so I had to vote for "Makes No Difference"

Makes No Difference got my vote although I do like the whole album. The live album was my first PT record & Makes No Difference really kicked ass on that one so I already loved the tune by the time I got this debut album.

I'd say "Making Magic" is my #1, but then there's "Life In London", "Heat In The Street", "Stevie" and lots more!

Yep, had to stick with M.N.D. too, although Hot Rod Lincoln still cracks me up today! Yeah, I was another who first heard Boom Boom & then bought Go For What You Know & from that, I was Hooked on PT's Music for real! Went out & then bought myself the back catalogue at the time on vinyl sadly, still to catch up with it all on CD. Really kind of wish they'd re-master Go For What You Know with some bonus tracks, but it probably seems pointless to Pat, as he's just done the Stick With What You Know follow up live CD. Still yet to hear that one .... Hoping my sources hook me up with a review copy .... Cheers, Al

There is actually a nice low end, as the original was all mid & high range. No extra songs, as this is the whole set Pat did in 1979, I caught the show, but it does have eight studio cuts to. It's called "8+8." Also, "Black Pearl," "Radioactive," & "Hot Shot" are now out on CD. Get'em while you can!

Jim! I loved Black Pearl & Radioactive was alright too, although a little disjointed ... Hot Shot was never available in the UK, never managed to track down a copy then. Will be looking to get that on CD (along with Black Pearl) although Amazon's price for it when I searched a while ago was high ... I'll have to look for "8+8" ... Wasn't aware of that at all! Thanks! Cheers, Al

I never understood why 'Black Pearl' & 'Radioactive' weren't better accepted.I really liked both alot as well as Hot Shot. A few weeks ago I was on a Pat Travers Kick & was listening to everything I had & I pulled out 'School of Hard Knocks' which had been gaining dust for quite a while & I loved it(I don't know why I didn't get into it more before). As much of a fan of Pat Thrall I always was,I must say I really am a fan of Jerry Riggs

They don't rock as hard, & PT was just going a different direction in the 80's. "Hot Shot" is my least favorite. PT was just going to commercial on this one. "Hot Shot" was a good tune, but the record as a whole seemed a little forced. "School of Hard Knocks" is ok, but it gets very little play here. Might have to revisit that one. Jerry Riggs for me, though an outstanding player, kind of generic-sized PT's sound. Just my opinion.

Hey Speedy, go check out some samples from the current, "Stick With What You Know" live release. It's bloody awesome! The only downer I hear from listening to it today for the first time, was that he had so many blues cover tracks on it, but the energy is all too clear! His sound on the live release makes up for the poor mix Pat got from when I saw him just over a week back now.
Hey Jim - Saw the listing fot the "8+8" you had mentioned & the extra studio cuts are really just another compilation. For the price on Amazon, I'd rather just get the re-mastered "Go For What You Know."
Cheers,
Al

Used & new from $11.70 USD 2/4/2009. I'd get it now, because in a year it will be double that. All of PT's re-releases from the 70's have sky rocketed in a very short time. I wouldn't wait to see if they ever come out with another re-master, because you might be old & grey when/if they do.
