Nowadays? Everybody. Just read every fucking interview with a musician who has an album coming out: "Yeah, this album's gonna be a lot heavier than previous efforts".
Nickelback is one group that I would probably like a lot more if they weren't trying so hard to be heavy.

Priest tried to be too heavy when Tim "Ripper" Owens was singing for them.

Nowadays? Everybody. Just read every f*cking interview with a musician who has an album coming out: "Yeah, this album's gonna be a lot heavier than previous efforts". Nickelback is one group that I would probably like a lot more if they weren't trying so hard to be heavy. If they dont do the "heavy" songs, they lose 1/3 of their audience. Thats 1/3 of their $$$$.

Godsmack is in that camp to along with Nickelback. I'm You guys are rock bands just rock an stop trying to be heavy. Priest was trying way too hard to be brutally heavy with Jugulator & Demolition. Ripper wasn't helping either.

Don't be too down on Ripper, his hands were tied really. Glen was calling all the shots with those albums.

Dio went so heavy on Angry Machines he was into Industrial, IMO.Way out of character as a singer and the beloved Dio sound.
