Why is he so underrated? IMO on the technical side he's one of the best.

I have at least 22 Gary Moore cds and 5 dvds, he is only underrated by idiots, and there are alot more of those than us smart ones. Here is one of my top guitarist... Michael Schenker (UFO Era) Uli Roth (Scorpions Era) Gary Moore (Before he went totally Blues) Randy Rhoads (Before Death) Eddie Van Halen (DLR Era) Vivian Campbell (Dio Holy Diver only) Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are cool, but I can't only take so many instrumental tunes before I get bored. ;D I like Frank Zappa's and Jeff Beck's playing. I have never been a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, his singing annoyed me too much, I'll take Jimi Hendrix anyday. Eric Clapton plays too slow for me to even care. Steve Stevens is cool.

From AMG:
One of rock's most underrated guitarists (both from a technical and compositional point of view), Gary Moore remains relatively unknown in the U.S., while his solo work has brought him substantial acclaim and commercial success in most other parts of the world — especially in Europe.

Most American's are fools when it comes to having good taste in music, talk about sort attention spans.

Both Steve Vai's and Joe Satriani's playing lacks the feeling and song orientated melodies of Gary Moore's playing. He also takes the time to let the notes breath rather than just blast through all of them. As a guitarist I've never been impressed with how fast you can or how many notes you can play at once. I'm impressed by playing some thing with feeling. I've played with other guitarist who can play technical stuff really fast. They get so pissed at me because I'm like WOW that was fast now can you slow some of that down an play it with some feeling. Most of the time people are like f-ck you. I love hurting big ego's.

Gary Moore is so good it's almost painful to listen to him! Seriously, his tone and phrasing are beyond compare whether it be his hard rock/metal years (which I prefer) or his awesome electric blues, he does it all.

I preferred Gary Moore on "To Tell The Truth" rather than "I've Got a Secret"(although I didn't see too many episodes of "IGAS"). "To Tell the Truth" made Bill Cullen,Orson Bean, & Kitty Carlysle household names in our house & of course Moore as the host was brilliant. ;D
Actually,at first the guitarist Gary Moore, was kind of disappointing on the first work of his I was familiar with. I heard "End of the World" off 'Corridors of Power' on the radio & was blown away by it & still am to this day but I was pretty disappointed with the rest of the album. As time past I read more about Gary & learned that he was in Thin Lizzy & was the guitarist on their 'Black Rose' album which along with China Town were 2 Lizzy albums I really liked. I picked up his 'White Knuckles' & 'Live at the Marquee' & liked them alot. At the time of it's release Kerrang seemed to promote the 'Run for Cover' album quite a bit so I gave it a try & once again loved it. I was psyched to see Gary put out "Still Got the Blues" which I thought was a pretty decent album but I wasn't overly as blown away as I thought I would've been seeing that I really was into Blues at the time.I'll take Johnny Winter or Pat Travers over Moore but I do like him.
I can agree with Pickel on Vai & Satriani, both are cool but I too get bored with them a bit, more so Satriani. I can't say Vai don't play with feeling because I love his work on especially the David Lee Roth stuff. You can't say his playing especially on "Tobacco Road" & "I'm Easy" isn't played with feeling.Shy Boy & elephant Gun,same thing, plenty of feeling on the DLR stuff as with the couple of Zappa albums. Even his work on 'Slip of Tounge" had feeling.
It's great to see Steve Stevens mentioned as I love his work not only with Billy Idol but That solo album that came out in the late 80's 'Steve Stevens & the Atomic Playboys' really kicked ass as did his work on Vince Neil's 'Exposed' album.

I'd still like Deep Purple if he would have took the job after Satriani left. Our local rock promotor Jim Koplik, is friends with Purple's manager and when asked who should replace Ritchie, he said Gary Moore and his answer was obviopusly NO.His reason was he didn't like to travel, I guess he's commited to the BLUES. Simply put he's awesome.

Killer player!
My choice for the best Gary Moore, is not a Gary Moore album, but Colosseum II. Killer fusion/progressive 70's rock band. "Electric Savage" & "War Dance" just rule! Gary performing with musicians of his caliber, not that the other musicians he played with were sluffs, but this is definitely the next level!

..closely followed by Wild Frontier.[/quote] Good call, Sparky. The only thing bad about Gary Moore is I don't have enough of his albums... (Cds) or whatever... Wild Frontier is a pretty thrilling album... too...
