"Tom Sawyer" got me hooked on Rush in 1981, and the rest of Moving Pictures drew me in even more...

I don't have a single favourite band. Of the 2 bands that I love the most :- Journey & Queensryche
...the compulsion to like them more than other bands lays in their capacity to write amazing songs and also the musicianship invoved. Both bands music 'moves' me more than most other bands.

My favorite band is Pink Floyd. Through Junior High and High School my favorites where either Def Leppard, Queen or Boston. I liked all of the Pink Floyd I heard but they where far from my favorite band. When I was in college I had a roommate who insisted on falling asleep to The Wall disc 2 on repeat. It used to drive me nuts at first but after a while it really grew on me. Within a few months I was almost obsessed with all things Pink Floyd. A few years later Division Bell came out. I was able to attend the Pulse tour and was blown away. I think Roger Waters is a genius and David Gilmour is the best guitar player on the planet. Pink Floyd's music is unequaled in its scope and imagination and they are one of the most preeminent bands in recorded music.

Parsons just may be my favorite audio egineer. Funny, that in terms of "engineer" and "conductor" they can be likened to that of running a train, yet wouldn't you think the "conductor" would have more say over how a song runs it's course?...yet Al was deemed the "engineer"?...go figure?...This kind of stuff keeps me up at night...hahahahahahahahaha. Thanks Kim

My 1st ever favorite band was Three Dog Night. My last favorite band was Aerosmith. I really do not have a favorite right now but do enjoy some of the newer bands -- Rose Hill Drive, Thieves & Liars, Wolfmother.

Although Kiss is my favorite band, they barely edge out 2 other artists...Alice Cooper & the NY Dolls.
Kiss - Their music was what drew my interest in the band.I loved "Rock & Roll All Nite" & "Beth" when they were AM Radio hits & had no idea who Kiss was & what they were all about. I ended up having my sister exchange a duplicate Elton John album gift for 'Rock & Roll Over' & that was it,I was bitten by the rock & roll bug & never recovered. Once I learned about their individual characters & stage show it made the Kissmania even more over the edge. Soon I was buying every magazine with them inside(although I was embarrssed as hell I even bought the much dreaded '16' teeny bopper magazine if they graced the cover!)
Alice Cooper - After I discovered Kiss in the mid/late 70's I was listening to bands like Aerosmith,Cheap Trick,& Ted Nugent.I had heard of Alice but never heard him so I took a chance with his latest release which was 'The Alice Cooper Show'. I was blown away by the amazing guitar solo exchange between Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter on "I'm 18". Even though nothing compares to Coop's original band from '67-'74,I always have a soft spot for that version of "I'm 18"
New York Dolls - "Yech! What a bunch of fags!" is what I thought of the Dolls after seeing their debut album cover at a friends house.I was around 16 at the time & would never give them a chance. Around '81 I went to a Pat Benetar concert & was totally blown away by the opening act which was the David Johansen band.I remembered 2 songs from that show (which I'd never heard before): "Personality Crisis" & "Stranded in the Jungle". After the show I bought 3 David Johansen albums which I loved but those 2 songs weren't on them. I think it was Spanky Madoo(from our forum) that told me he thought Johansen sang for the...NY Dolls. Sure enough there were the 2 songs on their 2 records. I thought the band looked really cool on "In Too Much Too Soon",kind of like Aerosmith.Guitarist Johnny Thunders looked so cool on that cover so I remembered seeing a section in a record store for his solo records & I bought everything I could find by him.His cd's are hard to find nowadays but I have at least 15 of his cd's & though his drug addiction hindered his talent & career I still thought he was amazing especially as a songwriter. RIP Johnny Thunders

Thanks Kim In terms of running a train the engineer can pretty much only controll the speed. Where the train will go is decided by the tracks. The tracks where laid down by Pink Floyd. ;D

Black Sabbath has been my #1 favorite band since I was seven. At first E5150 is what caught my attention when I was watching the movie Heavy Metal with my older family members. The music is what first drew me to Black Sabbath. I'm not prejudice like most diehard Black Sabbath fans because I start with the DIO years then worked my way back to the Ozzy years. Musically Iommi & Geezer have had the biggest impact an influence on me. It wasn't until my teen years that I paid attention to Black Sabbath's lyrics because over all it was the music that drew me to Sabbath from a early age. My mom has told me heavy music has always caught my attention. But through learning how to play Black Sabbath's music I went back even further to learn what influenced them like jazz,r&b,traditional Latin music, the blues, classical music, country, & so on. After Black Sabbath Rush is my next favorite band.

In the mid 1980's I heard Molly Hatchet's "Beatin' The Odds" through a compilation album of Southern Rock tunes. At the time, it was the heaviest thing I'd ever heard. That song not only opened my ears to the rest of the Molly Hatchet catalog, but to Heavy Metal in general. I have so many favorite artists that I hate to single out Molly Hatchet, especially since I rarely listen to them anymore, but they do seem to be the group that I keep coming back to. I also have more MH songs on my iPod than any other artist and lots of MH stuff (i don't know how else to catagorize it) on the walls of my basement cuz it looks cool.

Then on the next tier there's Pink Floyd, Elton John, Monster Magnet, Rush, Pearl Jam, The Cult, Soundgarden, The Clarks...oh crap, there's too many.

Pat Travers, without a doubt.
I first turned on to him in 1977. I heard "Getting Betta," & "Dedication" on KFMH FM. I recorded those songs & soon bought "Putting it Straight," which those songs came from. Traver's sound was totally unique. Other bands performed some great funk/metal back then like Mahogany Rush, Robin Trower (who is my second fave), & a few others, but not like Travers. Pat Travers sound was more sophisticated, yet more heavy. It could of been called heavy metal fusion, as Travers had a element of Jazz in his music that bands at the time lacked, other than the fusion bands. I loved the fusion bands, but Travers gave me that dose of heaviness they lacked. It was love at first riff, & I've been loving it ever since for 31 years!

For me its a tie between Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. I was obsessed with anything Thin Lizzy when I was in college. I have been listening to Iron Maiden much longer though. I started listening to them in 1983. While I always liked Thin Lizzy as a kid when I would hear the occasional song...I did not buy a TL record till my senior year of High School when I got a copy of 'Jailbreak'. I was hooked from then on. Iron Maiden I was obsessed with from 7th grade on and I have always been fascinated by Iron Maiden History.
To this day my three favorite guitarists are Adrian Smith, Brian Robertson and Michael Schenker. They are the players I got the most out of when it comes to guitar playing. I have taken something from each of them. While I am not near as good as any of the three I am a much better player than I would have been because of them.
So it might depend on which day you asked me who I would name as my favorite band, but on most days I am going to say Iron Maiden AND Thin Lizzy.

He's right up there with the greats. Maiden was the first band I heard that mixed all my favorite musical elements such as the blues,Hungarian scale, classical music, punk, & traditional metal. IMO every member of Maiden can more than hold their with the greats like Rush,Zeppelin,Sabbath,Cream,Priest, & so on.

Scorpions.
I like all incarnations of the band.
Cerebral, art-rock to anthem ballads... The Scorpions are all four food groups of rock!
Plus, I like their associations with Michael Schenker and -UFO-...
