I think Crue is better track for track...Def Leppard didn't really start coming into themselves until the next album.

Great match up.
Both come on like unchained, newly annointed super heros that haven't mastered their super suits yet...
I do love Motley Crue's first, but not as much as On Through the Night. Because Joe Elliots voice is richer and, -(((HELLO)))- they had two outrageously great guitar pickers... Errr that could really PLAY, not just kinda play and POSE!
Wasn't Rick Savage one of the earlier guitarists? He's on that one, I'm pretty sure. He might of been a mess, but his music was dang great. This album has some great double guitar stuff and dispite some swerving around on the production values, this release manages to be an overall superior chunk of kick-as-rock'n roll...

At the time On Through The Night was a great lp. Came out the same time as Iron Maidens first one. So I compared them to each other. Their next lp's they went in two different directions. And Maiden I liked better so Def Leppard got left behind. Sorry team, burp!!
Motley Crue I knew of before they ever got rich. So they weren't an impact on me. I had a copy of their first lp before it was signed to a big company. I think someone gave it to me at the Roxy or someplace else?
