What do you all think of them? Any good ones? Seems they were pumping them out everyday, a few years back. Now they seem to have setled down.
Just another example of no one that can write like they use to?

I HAVE A COUPLE AEROSMITH ONE'S. ONES CALLED NOT THE SAME OLD SONG & DANCE. AND THE OTHER IS ONE WAY STREET A TRIBUTE TO AEROSMITH. THEY'RE BOTH PRETTY GOOD. SAME OLD HAS RONNIE JAMES DIO SINGING DREAM ON WHICH IS PRETTY COOL & ALSO ON THAT ONE IS FEE WAYBILL FROM THE TUBES SINGING WALK THIS WAY THATS ALSO PRETTY COOL. I DON'T KNOW WHY I PICKED THESE UP BUT I DID & I LIKE THEM. I'VE LISTENED TO SOME OTHER TRIBUTE CD'S & JUST WASN'T IMPRESSED. LIKE YOU SAID JIM IT'S JUST MUSCIANS BEING LAZY & NOT WANTING TO WRITE ANYTHING NEW.

I have the "Skynyrd Frynds" album, pretty good, but mostly country artists' take on the Skynyrd songs. Highlights are McBride And The Ride's "Saturday Night Special", Hank Jr's "Tuesday's Gone" and Charlie Daniels' "One More Time". Lowspot IMO is NOT Wynnona's version of "Freebird", but rather Alabama's lame version of "Sweet Home Alabama" . I also have "Common Thread" a tribute to the Eagles also by Country artists....pretty much all songs are paint-by-numbers versions, not bad, but no new spin on any of the songs. Don't think I have any other tribute albums.

HEY JESSE,
THATS THE PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF THE TRIBUTE ALBUMS THAT I HEAR IS THAT THIER TO PAINT BY NUMBERS. THE ARTIST IS TO AFRAID TO PUT THIER OWN STAMP ON THE SONGS.

I don't usually buy them, prefer listening to the music by the original group.

I don't usually buy them, prefer listening to the music by the original group. I like hearing remakes if they're done right, but here's the problem with Tribute CDs: When a band covers a song on their own album, it's usually cuz they've done something different with it and made it their own. On tribute albums, it seems to me, bands aren't as adventurous with a songs arrangement and play it as close to the vest as possible. I guess they feel in order to pay tribute to a given artist, they should play those songs as they were originally recorded, but to me, that's rather boring.
