Just woke up from last nights ass-kicking served up by Tesla and the Scorpions. Whoo! Hoo! A wednesday show on a freezing night brought out thirtyfive hundred die-hard, rivit heads. Emerson was the opener...(Yawn)... Tesla came on strong with their Into the Now, and a smattering of others off the same titled Cd. Also played was a Foghat cover, I Just Want to Make Love to You that melded into Signs Also big hits like Modern Day Cowboy, Love Song... but no Mighty Mouse though, which is one of my current favorites from them. Tommy Scheoch was present and somewhat 'together'...(after-show-party-conversation) Great energy was emitted in giant waves of guitaring and drumming. All the dudes looked fit-as-a-fiddle. They were all dressed down in either jeans or leather britches save for Brian Wheat who wore a brown suit with jacket, kind of like a zoot suit except no tail. Like I said, they all were in great form jamming around, flinging their hair and just flat-out rockin' the place. They are undoubtedly, bad-asses and they delivered the ROCK. You would've been proud, believe me. Whilst getting pummeled by their show it dawns on my buds and I that this is the "Opening" act. We still had the gawd-damn Scorpions yet! Remember them? Thirty years and album after album of the juiciest rock-n-roll ever produced... yeah, those guys!
They blasted the place... I actually missed the first song because I was in line for my favorite adult beverage...drat!
Their set included many off the Unbreakable release, which is a strong, well done album. Of course their musical legacy is so vast that at any show you'll only get a sliver of their catalog. But for me, if I don't hear The Zoo or Coast to Coast from the stage at some point, I'll feel gyp'd. They did both those, so no worrys! Klaus Mein's voice was total perfection, proving that he is not fading. What an amazing talent... for so long too. (overlooked-underrated-to-the-max) Mathias Jabs, beyond great, Rudolph Schenker timeless rocker, dominating stage presence, so cool, so flippen' cool! It was a kick-ass show with many youngins' in the audience. It was soothing to the soul to see so many up-beat, enthusiastic fans. Nobody's bored or distracted at any point. From across the arena in the curtained exits where the ushers usually stand with their flashlights, I enjoyed the site of curvacious babes groovin' to the rock, sillouetted by the lit coridoor... Great stuff... Such GREAT music! It gives life! Raise your goblet of rock!
