Helloween- "7 Sinners" 2010
I got this CD at a time when I wasn't listening to Metal much and didn't really have time to listen to CDs a lot in general. At the time, I allowed this to slip under my radar and into a stack of CDs that I neither listened to nor put into my iTunes library. Been listening to it a lot recently to get a feel for what songs to add to my iTunes library from this CD that I didn't feel I gave enough of a chance to back when I bought it.
So, here's my thoughts: It's not bad, but I may have gotten it right the first time as there just isn't anything memorable here. It's an enjoyable enough listen with some bludgeoning metal riffing, intense drumming and ok vocals, but..... damn.... There's just nothing to hang your hat on here. No hooks in anything. It all just blurs on by, going in one ear and out the other without leaving any kind of trail behind to bring me back to it. I've played this CD so much in recent months that I am sick of it without remembering how a single song goes. No catchy choruses, riffs, chord progressions, beginnings, endings.... Nothing. Just, blah. End result is that NOTHING from this CD did I end up loading onto my iTunes and the CD will go back into a box in the back of my closet until next time I give it a chance.
You want a rating? I'll give it 2 stars out of 5. If you're looking for some random, sonic sludge to listen to when you get the urge for some Metal background noise, this will satisfy that craving, but it's not like you're gonna be singing along or playing air guitar to this. Mindless Metal, I really thought Helloween were above this sort of crap.
