How'd I miss this? Riff West (Molly Hatchet) RIP 11/19/14

Apparently ex-Molly Hatchet and Foghat bassist Riff West passed away nearly a month ago and I just read about it! He passed away in his sleep on Nov 19th....no apparent cause. i think he was only about 60. Amazing how many Southern Rockers have died in their 50's or early 60's in their sleep with no obvious cause of death. In addition to West, there was: Billy Powell (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker Band, Duane Roland (Molly Hatchet), Tom Crain (Charlie Daniels Band) and Hughie Thomasson (Outlaws/Lynyrd Skynyrd).


Riff West was a member of Molly Hatchet from 1982 until 1990 and played on the "No Guts...No Glory" album, which was my favorite Hatchet album until they released "Devil's Canyon" in 1996. He also played on their live album "Double Trouble-Live" from 1985 where his bass lines smoked those of original bassist Banner Thomas IMO. Especially on "Dream's I'll Never See". HE was in a version of Foghat (with Lonesome Dave) from 1991-1993. West organized the whole "Jammin' For Danny Joe Brown" project in the mid 90's to benefit original Hatchet vocalist Danny Joe Brown. Since the mid 2000's he was playing in the Gator Country band with fellow Molly Hatchet alumni Steve Holland (guitar), Bruce Crump (drums), Jimmy Farrar (vocals) and Duane Roland (guitar until his death in 2005).

From what I've read, he was a good guy and nobody but Bobby ingram seemed to have anything bad to say about him.
