Been on a Whitesnake 'Slide It In' kick lately.....kind of become geeked out by it for some reason. It's probably my favorite Whitesnake album along with 'Come 'An Get It'......I really dig the album but I think the reason I have been listening to it a lot is because it is the one album where they have two versions....The U.K. version that features Mickey Moody and Mel Galley on guitar and Colin Hodgekinson on bass and the USA version that has Mel Galley, John Sykes and Mickey Moody on Guitar....although Moody is not credited on the USA version and I believe there are more of his guitar tracks present than Sykes'....as well as Neil Murray on bass.
I bought the 2009 Remaster at Walmart a few weeks ago for 5 bucks....it is the USA mix......but it got me to thinking about the UK version so I sought that out on ebay....and got the 35 Anniversary 2 disc version that has both mixes. I actually like both. The USA version is a slicker production and sounds better for the American market....its a little heavier. The UK version sounds more like old Whitesnake and I prefer the Moody/Marsden eras. Still I think the USA version is slightly better.
To me 'Slide It In' was the last great Whitesnake album.

I don't think I have a top ten because I only like the Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske eras....but here are my favorites in order:
1. Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 2 2. Keeper of The Seven Keys Part 1 3 Walls Of Jericho 4. Live In The U.K./I Want Out Live 5. Pink Bubbles Go Ape 6. Chameleon
The 'Judas' EP is really cool to but I believe it was only 5 songs three of which are live versions of songs from 'Walls Of Jericho'.
I remember being addicted to 'Keeper Part 1' when it came out.....I loved that record and sonically it is superior to Part 2 but in all I think Part 2 has better songs and shows better songwriting from Weikath, Hansen and Kiske. '...Jericho' is just a great German Thrash album. Pink Bubbles has some really good songs and I never heard all of 'Chameleon' until last year....and while I think that album gets away from what Helloween was supposed to be....it does show great songwriting and the band branching out.....I actually think that is a very good album.

Anything by Chicago...I just don't get the appeal of that band. Their songs sounded like game show themes....

Interesting thread....I am surprised about the 'Powerslave' pick though. To me that album is bulletproof. Not a bad song on it. For years 'Piece of Mind' was and probably still is my favorite Iron Maiden album but that album has "Quest For Fire" which is almost like Steve in his younger years was writing a song with Blaze Bailey in mind. It sounds like a song Blaze Bailey would sing....corny melody and all.....but I digress. 'Powerslave' is probably tied for #1 on my favorite Maiden albums with 'Killers' almost right there. The only Maiden albums I do not like are the Bailey albums and 'No Prayer For The Dying'. 'Fear of The Dark' is ok...but essentially Maiden without Adrian Smith does not make much sense.....and besides the Di'Anno albums a hard sell without Bruce.
Some of my picks for heralded albums I don't get:
1.Led Zeppelin-IV....I love Zeppelin and I was very influenced as a guitar player by Page's gift at writing some of the best chord progressions of all time. This album has a couple songs I really love like "When The Levee Breaks" and "Battle Of Evermore"......but I never want to hear "Rock N Roll" , "Black Dog" or "Stairway To Heaven" ever again. The first two were mediocre songs anyway and I always found "Going To California" annoying. I basically like half the album. To me Zeppelin I, 2, 3, 'Houses Of The Holy' and 'Physical Graffiti' crush IV and I even think 'In Through The Outdoor' and Presence' are better and more interesting albums.
2. Judas Priest-Painkiller....never understood the appeal of this album. I thought it was Priest trying to keep up with Pantera and not sounding like Priest. The production is horrible, the guitars sound horrible, the drums sound horrible. The whole recording just sounds digital.....but that alone I could live with. The main issue is the songs. It sounds like what Priest is still doing to this day but albums like 'Angel Of Retribution' and 'Firepower' have better songs. I have never owned a copy of it.....I have every Judas Priest album but 'Painkiller' and 'Redeemer of Souls'. I will take 'Ram It Down' over 'Painkiller' any day.
3. Motley Crue-Dr. Feelgood...I remember when the video to the title track was released on MTV and I watched it and said....."....holy shit....this sounds like something off 'Shout At The Devil!'.....I bought the cassette and realized I was completely wrong. The rest of the album sucked balls......and yes I hated "Kickstart My Heart"....shit song and shit album.
4.Pearl Jam-Ten....don't like this band at all....and 'Ten' is probably their best album.....but I never got why this album is considered so great. To me it sounds like generic hard rock that takes very little chances. Pearl Jam was never near as good as Soundgarden. I feel guilty for putting them in the same sentence.
5. Metallica-The Black Album....I think this was their worst album through that period. The Load albums are much worse......but to me compared to the first four albums this was a dumbed down version of Metallica. I loved this album when it first came out but over time I started comparing it to their early albums and found myself really missing THAT band. Then for the longest time I really could not listen to it. I do like about half the album and I don't think there is anything terrible on it.....but it marked the beginning of the end of one of the greatest thrash bands of all time. I do like their last album and would put it higher on the list at number 5....the Black album being number 6. The load albums and 'St. Anger' I think should be forgotten.
I will think of more later.....

I have heard that band over the years and never really liked them. I think it was the singer that put me off....maybe I should dig deeper... Well..... I seem to recall that you don't like latter-day Helloween neither so.... Honestly, what I heard wasn't 100% awesome, but since usually jobsite radios are playing either modern rock or sounds like it was "bring your daughter's iPod to work day", I was pleasantly surprised and digging it for the most part. However, there were a few turds in there, that's why I started this thread as I don't want to just buy a random Avenged Sevenfold CD, not like it and go the rest of my life not liking the band only to find out that I bought their worst album. (Kinda like what I did with Testament ) This is true....I think post Kiske Helloween blows...

Yeah no doubt. I think the story was better with the first movie....but still the second one I liked and I think they could do a third movie and maybe get back to what made the first one so good. The first one had more of a Mission Impossible feel to it....

So I guess the spammer bots are the final nail in the coffin for this forum. It's just been mainly you and I Jesse keeping it alive for the last year and a half maybe more. I was coming here about 4 times a week.....but now its once a week sometimes once every two weeks. The spammers are hard to take though and I started coming less and less. I suppose the forum will not be completely dead if the spammers post.....the funny thing is there will be nobody reading them....hahaha.....fuck 'em....

It's crazy.....probably because the site is unprotected....being that Ricky peaced out. There are no Administrators to do anything about it either. It's just you and me Jesse and that one new guy who has made like 3 posts....lol. I know on the DinosaurRockGuitar Forum...the administrator pays about a $100 a month to keep the site from getting hacked and you can not post as a guest. You can only view the site as a guest. Maybe one of us can contact Ricky to see if you can make us Admins and we can prevent guest posts. I still intend on keeping the forum going until we can get some new members.

The new Grand Magus album 'Wolf God' yesterday and today the previous album 'Sword Songs'. One of my favorite bands and will be seeing them open for Amon Amarth/Arch Enemy/At The Gates in October. Mainly going to see Grand Magus but Arch Enemy should be good.

Very interesting indeed Jesse. I saw your post on Facebook. Such a shame. I saw Molly Hatchett in '95 or '96....and do not really know which singer I saw. Saw them in a big Country and Western bar in Wilmington, NC. The singer sounded like Danny Joe Brown.....but had blonde teased out hair. I didn't get that close to the stage....but had more of an '87 David Coverdale look. At the time I thought it was Danny Joe Brown with long bleached teased out hair....but I have the feeling it was Patrick McCormack looking back on it. The guitar players were Bobby Ingram and a guy that looked like Duane Roland but I don't think it was Duane. Band sounded great. RIP Patrick...

Chicago is one of those bands that whenever I hear them on the radio I get pissed off. Their songs sound like game show music to me. The horn section only adds to the annoyance. While I appreciate great musicianship and I suppose it is.....I draw the line with that band. There are people love that band.....never understood it.

That has been going on for several years. The technology is great because the sound guy can walk around the room and get an idea of the sound in various spots and adjust the mix accordingly. Basically what you have is a digital console at the front of house that is bluetooth compatible so you can use your Ipad or tablet as the controller when not at the board. Behringer I think was one of the first companies to start doing this with their X series consoles.
