The Who has begun mulling its next studio album, on the heels of 2006's "Endless Wire," its first new disc in 24 years. According to a post on TheWho.com from Pete Townshend, the band is considering working with producer T-Bone Burnett. "I am hoping to come up with some songs for a more conventional Who record," Townshend wrote, adding that Burnett "is an old friend of mine." 2008 will also likely bring live shows in Japan in the fall, to coincide with the release there of the recent Who documentary "Amazing Journey." In addition, Townshend and vocalist Roger Daltrey are discussing "revisiting 'Quadrophenia' the way we did it in the '90s," the guitarist says. Beforehand, the Who may play "some shows in the festival season this summer," Townshend says. "I would want to do that purely for fun, and I don't want to turn it into a big tour. I need to stay focused on my writing." In other Who news, the group is planning a late summer/early fall release for DVDs chronicling two well-known shows from its archive. The first, taped Dec. 14, 1969, at London Coliseum, boasts a complete performance of "Tommy." The second, from Dec. 15, 1977, at Kilburn State Gaumont, was filmed for use in the documentary "The Kids Are Alright" but has never been released in complete form.

"Hey Hey, My My, Rock & Roll will never die..." When I was 17 & first heard these words from Neil Young in 1979 I never believed it nor imagined it. Almost 30 years later, while the genre of Rock & Roll is still going strong, Rock & Roll as I once knew it is dying. Many musicians who were in their prime in '79 have sadly passed on & the rest are nearing their 60's & even 70's. I always feel that these bands should be going through their archives & releasing things that die hard fans will appreciate so the rock stars that made the music could benefit from sales of their product. I really think it's great that the Who are doing this & maybe they(along with Zep)are realizing that physically you never know... The Who's last album 'Endless Wire' is a phenominal album but it just sucks that Entwistle couldn't be part of it. It makes me wonder if the death of "the Ox" was the kick in the arse Townshend & Daltrey needed(granted I know it's been always noted that Pete & Roger weren't the closest behind the scenes). I for one feel it's great the Who are not only looking back but they are looking forward as well.I look forward to another new studio release & I can't wait for the '77 show to come out on DVD."...My My,Hey Hey, Rock & Roll is here to stay.."
