How can people say that there are no good bands around anymore? I literally can list right off the bat, probably at least 100 bands that are great, and that's just scratching the surface. Sure, if you're looking for your radio, MTV, VH1 or VH1 Classic to show you your way, you aren't going to find it there. But there are more bands who rock than there have been in many years coming up these days, despite(or maybe because of) all the music downloading. Yet, you still have people complaining about how there are no good bands, everything sucks these days etc. etc. Why is that? Discuss...

I agree there is some good stuff out there if you look far enough. however I have yet to find the new band that does not grate on my nerves after about 5 songs.
The problem isn't the bands.....there are no great ALBUMS being made. IMO of course
Seems like no LOVE is being put into the music....it is just product.
When somone can show me a new GREAT album front to back I will change my tune.
the only bands putting out albums that you can just leave on from beginning to end are OLD bands. The last Bob Seger album comes to mind. Where are the albums like:
KISS Destroyer or ALive!....hell any of the first 8 albums.
Hell Bent for Leather or Stained Class
Killers or # of the Beast
Master of Reality or Paranoid
Rocks...Toys in the Attic...Get Your Wings
Any of the Bon Era AC/Dc....and most of the Brian

the only bands putting out albums that you can just leave on from beginning to end are OLD bands. The last Bob Seger album comes to mind. Where are the albums like: I thought the last Seger was ok…but FAR from solid. I think most of the older bands are the ones that are NOT putting out solid efforts, simply because most artists hit their peek at ONE time in their career and don’t hit a 2nd peek. There are exceptions, of course. These are albums by newer bands that I find VERY solid…of the top of my head: Silversun Pickups Avenged Sevenfold Coheed and Cambria Wolfmother I think it comes down to a generation thing. There are younger people wondering where are all rock albums like Ten, Superunknown, Nevermind and Siamese Dream. There are older people wondering where are all the rock albums like Led Zep I, Disraeli Gears and Electric Ladyland. Then there are people in their 40s (a lot of people on this board) wondering where are the albums like Destroyer, Back in Black and Moving Pictures. Today’s kids (in a few decades) will wonder where all the albums are that’s like the stuff they are growing up with now. I say… If you like Hendrix (60s)…listen to the newer band, The Black Keys If you like Rush (70s)…listen to Coheed and Cambria If you like The Smashing Pumpkins (90s)…listen to The Silversun Pickups If you like 60s-70s acid rock…listen to Black Mountain But for the most part…no one will…but that’s ok. At least I know “what’s up.”

I like Avenged and Coheed BUT I still cannot take 45 minutes of their music at a time. I think maybe the production has something to do with it.

Wolfmother is pretty good but imo their debut has some kick ass tunes along with some clunckers. Silversun Pickups are interesting too but I think Speedy should check out Black Stone Cherry and if you like blues laden rock check out American Minor. I don't skip a song and listen to both CDs at 11 all the way through.
Of course I've jumped the bandwagon and have become a huge fan of now platinum rockers Buckcherry.
Between Nightwatcher, Spaced and the stuff on the RNRU board I can't keep up with all the new rock!

I was just talking to my wife this morning about the internet & how it is great nowadays for bands. There are tons of great bands out there young & old who people may not have heard of had it not been for the internet. At www.cdbaby.com it's great for finding these bands. You can put Alice Cooper in the search & although they might not sell Cooper cd's they will give you a long list of bands that have similarities. They also let you listen to 2 minutes of just about every song. Myspace Youtube are also great for discovering new music. Of course, major labels still have a corner on the market but many independent local bands are probably selling more than ever when people check out their sites & they offer cd''s for sale. It may not make them rich but before the internet, living in Buffalo it never would've crossed my mind to even look for some local release from some band from say Phoenix,AZ.

A while back i heard one song from Black Stone Cherry and it sounded (i thought at the time) like every other Nickelback wannabe band out there. I am listening to a song right now called Tired of the Rain and its jammin. I think i gotta give them a 2nd shot. I might of missed the boat on these guys.

There aren't many albums you can listen to beginning to end being made anymore. I can think of two in 2007: Snakes & Arrows by Rush and Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree. That's not to say that others weren't made, but those are the two I bought. I can't even listen to the alt rock station in Indy because all of the song sound the same, and generally like shit. I hear of a lot of these new bands, but you hear of them doing one, maybe two albums, then they are on minute fourteen and a half, then they're done. Few bands have any staying power anymore. I want to like them, but I just can't in most cases. Mark

Gotta thank ya Bucky for this post buddy! I'll echo Pete's statement as well regarding CDBABY in that it's a great site. I had the chance to check it out yesterday and although I've been having internet problems the last few days, (seems okay now)?, I was able to review some of the material. I especially love the "Sounds Like" feature and of course punched in Status Quo...go figure huh?... ;D Anyway, long story short, I ordered up 3 cds from 3 different artists and can't wait to get my mitts on them. Great prices I might add! I wanted more but some were no longer in stock at this time. For what it's worth, the cds I did purchase do contain Quo influences, but at the same time, seem to cross over into the ZZ Top, Dave Edmunds, Foghat genre also and well...it's just my kinda music!...at least one brand that I like. I will surely be scoping this site out further and of course will bring back any info that may prove valuable or at least interesting regarding the music that others here may favour as well. Here's what I picked up... Hercules - "Licence To Rock" Devils Creek - "Bullfrog Blues" On The Level - "Blues In E" Devils Creek really blew me away, and I can't for the life of me believe that it sounds so good. Every 2 minute snippet from this release had me wanting more! Check this site out for sure, but make sure that you come back and share with the rest of us...afterall, this is our home! Thanks Kim

I bet if you got really drunk you'd like it... just kidding. From the first time I put the CD in I liked it straight through but that's me. To each his own. I only like a handful of KISS songs.

Kim - Thanks for the kind words about Devils Creek! The whole CD was recorded, mixed and mastered in three days! - so everything went down live / one take with the exception of one solo (Shadow City). www.myspace.com/devilscreekStop by and say hello! Tim Chapple Devils Creek.

Tim Chapple Devils Creek. Tim, you are more than welcome. I just call them as I see them, or in this case, "hear" them. The opening track is what got me, and from there, the rest of the album simply blew me away...and that was just from the samples listed on cdbaby. Like I said in the other post, I can't wait to hear the album once it arrives. All I can say is that a person realizes that something must be right when a simple "sound byte" stays in your head for days! Thanks again Tim for some great music. Folks, check this release out, you won't be disappointed! Thanks Kim
