Well,...it's Sunday night and because I'm usually only on this site during weekends, thought I would leave the good folks here with something a little more to ponder. I think this one might require a bit more thought???... This classic album has a lot of depth to it. I'll admit that it's not metal, hard rock, new wave, punk, or pop(really it's not)... Anyone that tries to tell me that a song like Funeral For A Friend or All The Girls Love Alice is a pop song, I'll argue with them till the cows "leave home". This was a double album released by one of the most prolific songwriting teams of the 70's and the proof is in the pudding that is well contained within this album. Just my opinion, but Elton John reached the pinnacle of his career with this one. What amazes me about this release, is the power and endearing qualities that the good majority of the tracks that this album has to offer. Quite possible that it's just my taste in music, but I found even years ago when I first heard this album...it grew on me...and rather quickly. It wasn't so much "Bennie And The Jets" or "Saturday Night's...", but more along the lines of "Funeral For A Friend, All The Girls Love Alice, Roy Rogers and The Ballad of Danny Bailey" that really holds a place and time in my heart so to speak. I'm quite interested in hearing what the thoughts on this release are and curious to see just how many folks dug as deep into the album as I did over the years. I had this one on 8-Track, cassette, and now of course cd. Thank be to jesus that they didn't remaster the shite out of it and also that they kept "Candle In The Wind" in it's true and original format. (didn't care for the remake in the early 90's). Honestly, I can't pick just one track...I find that I keep coming back to the album for different reasons every time. On a side note, once again just my opinion, but I really think this album was well produced...great sound quality...regardless of the format you may have it in. Thanks Kim

Funeral for a Friend is an awesome way to start that album. It got my attention the first time I heard it and has been my favorite ever since.

I would've voted for "Funeral for A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" but they were listed seperatley, so I voted for LLB since the other already had a vote.

Voted for Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, although Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is a very close second and an excelent album opener.

Funeral For A Friend
I like that whole grandiose orchestral sounding thing.
Initially I thought that and Love Lies Bleeding were all one song. I remember hearing them played on FM AOR radio as one. Seems like those two songs together should be one selection to vote for.
I have that album on vinyl! But I didn't acquire it until about sometime between 1985-1988. A used record shop in Albuquerque ...

My parents had this album when I was a kid, it was one of the few non-country albums they owned. I used to listen to it a helluva lot and the title song was always my favorite. Now, years later, I prefer "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding". One long song really. On this poll, I voted for "Love Lies Bleeding" just to even up the score.

Believe it or not, I think this is Elton’s most overrated album. It has some good songs (I voted for Funeral for a Friend…although it’s hard to separate it from Love Lie Bleeding), but I don’t think it comes close to Tumbleweed Connection or Madman Across the Water.

Funeral for a Friend. I love the two songs together, though.
Incidentally, I also think Dream Theater's version from A Change of Seasons was pretty hot.
