Pat Boone has hard rock album full of covers... If I recall my Pat Boone knowledge correctly, I believe he made a career out of cover songs.

As a general rule, I dislike covers, but there are some exceptions:
Michael Fath (Focus) - Hocus Pocus Jeff Beck (Beatles) - She's a Woman Megadeth (Jeff Beck) - I Ain't Superstitious Metallica (Queen) - Stone Cold Crazy (although personally I prefer Queen's version) Jimi Hendrix Experience (Dylan) - All Along The Watchtower King's X (Jimi Hendrix) - Manic Depression Stevie Ray Vaughan (Jimi Hendrix) - Little Wing
And there are some I've seen live or heard bootlegs of that were great:
Eric Johnson (Jimi Hendrix) - Love or Confusion Gov't Mule w/ Chris Robinson (Beatles) - Don't Let Me Down Ian Moore (Cream) - Politician ...and I have every version of "Sails of Charon" I can get, which includes the aforementioned Yngwie and Testament versions.

Yep...gotta agree with that one. I also liked their take on Pretty Woman... Cheap Trick did a fine rendition of "Ain't That A Shame" too... great handle on that one. Crazy as I am, I also liked Dwight Yoakams take on Elvis' "Suspicious Minds"...hats off to ya Dwight!!!! Can't say as I'm liking much of the remakes these days though???...geezus...the likes of killing Harry Neilsons "Without You" and Eric Carmens' "All By Myself" make me shiver and shit razor blades to no end! Sick and totally uncalled for. Leave the classics alone if you can't do them justice. Same goes for you too there Lenny baby...leave the Guess Who and any other Canuck toons alone would ya? Your talent leaves a bit to be desired in this camp com-padre!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Kim

...that's actually a Willie Dixon song...
Motorhead did a pretty cool version of "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" on their first album.
I agree about SRV's "Voodoo Chile". That's one of the rare instances where I think the cover was better than the orignal. Baddass tune...

Nevermore - Sound of silence I heard Testament with James Murphy rip out an excellent version of "Sails of Charon" a few years back. Yeah that ruled. It was in their 'best of'.. It also had an Aerosmith cover if I remember right.

I confuse it sometimes with "Superstition," which, while not technically a Beck tune, was written by Stevie Wonder FOR the Jeff Beck Group. SRV did a nice version of it, too. Somewhere on the net there is floating around a version of Van Halen doing "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers," which is fitting, because Billy Gibbons used two-handed tapping on it, long before Van Halen came out.

I downloaded the live video of that online. It's badass. Michael Anthony's co-lead vocals are great and Eddie nails it.

...that's pretty good, but The Mamas Boys did a cover of that around the same time and I thought their version was better. Both good though....

Actually 'Superstitition' was originally on Stevie Wonder's 'Talking Book' album which Jeff Beck worked on. Jeff loved the tune so much he recorded it with Carmine and Tim for the BB&A album.

I love the way Van Halen did "You're No Good".
So completely different from the original.
And Dave's screams and Ed's guitar...going back and forth like that....awesome!
