I don't think you can make a shitty album great, but what could you do to make one better? I got this idea from Dennis DeYoung who, in an interview, said that "Kilroy Was Here" would've been a great album if only they had put "Renegade" or a song like that on the album. I dunno that that would make it "great", but it certainly would be better and maybe thought of as good by more people than it is today. Anyhow, my pick is Molly Hatchet's "The Deed Is Done" an album from one of my favorite bands that I can hardly listen to. How to make it better? Well, the songs are mostly good, but there are too many chorus repeats on several of them and not enough guitar playing. So I would drop some of the chorus repeats and add some back and forth guitar soloing at the end of a few of these. Also, redo the drums. They were too stiff and robotic. overall mix was too trebly and had too much reverb on the whole thing. Would remix the whole album taking away most of the reverb and try to dial in the EQ for a warmer sound. A couple of the songs were shit to begin with and even the best tunes didn't sound like Molly Hatchet, so it would still be a disappointing album for old fans, but it would be better.  |

Duran Duran's 'Seven and The Ragged Tiger' would have been much better had there been more of Andy Taylor's influence and more guitar instead of being more dance and synth pop. Thin Lizzy's 'Renegade' album is good as a whole but side two suffers from Lizzy's more unmemorable songs. "Hollywood" and "Fats" are good but the other 3 songs are fairly week. That album could have used at least one more song like "Angel Of Death' Or "Hollywood".... Iron Maiden's 'No Prayer For The Dying' was proof of how crucial Adrian Smith is and was to that band. A lackluster album with not one of Martin Birch's better productions. Adrian left the band because he wanted to continue with the direction of 'Seventh Son'....Steve Harris wanted something more raw....but I think he failed. They should have listened to Adrian. Not sure even Adrian Smith coulda saved that one Had Adrian been in the band there would have been better songs and he would have had input on the direction of it as a whole. It would have been a different record with Adrian. Adrian's influence on 'Somewhere In Time' was huge. Not only in the songs he wrote but with the sound. |

I can understand why people don't like "Gangland" because of the odd timing and it is an unusual song....but I like that one to. They should have put "Total Eclipse" on NOTB. I always got the feeling they left it off because the lyrics were written by Paul Di'Anno... |
