Hi all,
I really loved the "We are Twisted FN Sister" documentary, along with Rush's "All the World's a Stage".
I'm going to try and watch the Terry Gath one this week (Chicago)
Amazon Prime has a bunch of free documentaries, some have been a little cheezy (there's a Van Halen one with no interviews!).
Can anyone recommend decent ones with road stories, decent interviews, etc like those above?

That Twisted Sister Doc is really good....I thought it was cool seeing some of the old footage in that
One documentary I really liked was on Hulu I believe. It's called 'Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story'. That was a good one. I was always really into Ronson's playing and his work. He was a true Rock star that became largely forgotten.....and he doesn't get enough credit. He was a master arranger and musician. Check that one out.

Also did you ever see the Andy Summers documentary 'Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police'? That is really good. I always was big Police fan and a fan of Andy's.....but even if you are not into them...it is a really good documentary. Before it was released nobody really knew much about the guy.

I watched the Ronson vid yesterday, that was fantastic Mark - just the type I enjoy, lots of rock legends discussing tours and album making, etc. I love the way they all know each other, Ian Hunter, Bowie, Ronno, Joe Elliot...even Glen Matlock (who looked like a college professor or something). Great stuff
Will check out the Andy Summers - not a big Police fan, but still may enjoy the documentary.

There's a new Stooges documentary on Amazon, it's good but despite the band's legendary status, I never listen to their stuff!
Same with Pink Floyd, Joy Division...a few others.

That Stooges doc came out last spring or summer I think. I got some of the promo posters from my local record store. I watched it when it came out. It was really good. I only have 'Raw Power' which is a cool album but I need to go back and revisit the pre James Williamson stuff.
Joy Division were always a band that I liked whatever songs I heard but never bought their music or took any real time to listen to them. I owned a tribute album of their stuff done by artists such as Moby and Girls Against Boys. I think the Moby cover was used in the movie 'Heat'.

You have a local record store? Ours all died out years ago.

You have a local record store? Ours all died out years ago. Yeah it's called School Kids. It used to be a small North Carolina chain of about 4 stores when I was in college. Raleigh, Durham and Wilmington locations I think. The Raleigh location and Durham locations still exist and there was one in Chapel Hill that opened up a couple years ago. The Raleigh location has changed addresses a few times but its a really cool store. They actually serve beer and have bands perform on the weekends.

Mark.....have you seen the documentary 'Hired Gun'? That's another good one. I saw it at the movie theater where it played for one night....but I believe it is on Netflix now. Basically about all the session and touring sidemen. Some great interviews.

Hey man - Yeah, I saw Hired Gun around xmas time on Netflix.
I've always heard good things about Billy Joel in terms of how he is to work with. This was the first show where he comes across as a tyrant!
What did you think?

In the beginning of the documentary Billy Joel comes off as cool because he fought for his original band to be the guys in the studio......but then he does a total turnaround on Liberty Devito and Doug Stegmeyer. I did not know Stegmeyer committed suicide over it. DeVito seemed like such a cool guy to. Seemed like Joel turned on him for no real reason. In all I would say Joel comes across as a first class dick...and honestly I believe it.

Yeah weird because in Dee Snider's book, he describes Joel as such a "down to earth" guy.
Anyway, digging this one lately:

Just watched part I of the Riot doc. Very cool.....never really knew that much about the band. I have a 'Fire Down Under', 'Restless Breed' and 'Thundersteel'....but that's it. Makes me want to dive deeper into the catalog.

I started a thread about this documentary on Bang Tango. I was a fan back in the day and saw them live when they were on tour for the first album. I thought this one was pretty good. The singer just can't let it go..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8vX4qUuy9I
