Not sure how many of us here have a story to relate to in regards to just how much of an impact our older siblings may have had in the way we turned out, or how they may have influenced our musicals tastes to this day or not?
I recall, at the tender age of 5, my brother who is 11 years my senior, was spinning The Beatles and The Stones at the time during the mid 60's.
For me, it made a difference. As I looked up to him not only as a brother, but a father figure to some degree, I sure as hell thought at the time, he knew his music...haha.
A few years later, he'd come home with stuff like "Little Green Bag" and again, I thought, the man was a genious!
Sadly, his interest in music died while I was in my teens and he no longer held the same interest in the impact that music could have on not only himself, but impessionable teens such as myself.
At this point, during the 70's, he was content in tuning into the Top 40 crap that spewed forth from the airwaves of the day.
I think he got old before his time and became jaded due to many other factors that impacted his life back then?
Haven't seen the man in over 11 years to date so I can't say what his feelings are regarding music, let alone even know where he is?
Curious to hear if any others out there had some help along the way from "big brother" or "big sister"?
Thanks Kim

My older brother. He was a metalhead. Just like yours, Kim, my brother's musical tastes also changed. When we were driving to a restaurant together, he had Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl playing. What happened to the guy who listened to Mob Rules and got me into Dio???

My older brother was a pop fan mostly... One day when I was in Jr. High he came home going on and on and on how Pink Floyd put out a new album called 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' and how awesome it is. Previous to this I was aware of Pink Floyd and there hits but never really listened to them until I stole his cassette which I still have to this day. Later in college I was pretty much obsessed with all things Floyd. I'm no longer what you'd call obsessed with Pink Floyd but they're still definitely my favorite band.

I have 3 older sisters. I was the baby of the household as my next youngest sister is 6 years older than me. With 3 older sisters (actually 2 because my oldest sister was married & out of the house when I turned 4) music was always big in our household. I always thought my Sister Sally(14 years older) was the coolest as she listened to Edgar Winter, Alice Cooper, King Floyd(big hit was "Groove Me"), Three Dog Night, & Brownsville Station while my other sister Nancy (6 years older) used to annoy me listening to songs like "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, & all of those sock hop tunes from the 50's. The two of them both also liked all the Top 40 AM radio hits & constantly bought 45's. When i reached my teens my sister Sally bought me my first record player & my first Kiss album (Rock & Roll Over) & my life was changed before that all I really cared about was Hockey

I was born in 1979. My first album I ever bought myself was Europes "The Final Countdown" in 1986. I've been listening to classic rock and 80's metal for my entire life. I do not have any older brothers or sisters.
P.S. My favorite album of 1989 was Queensryches "Empire."
I remember when I bought that album , I was blown away.

no I have no older siblings Same here. My neighbor was a few years older than me. We used to listen exclusively to Country music back in the early-mid 80's, but I listened to Country because of my parents and I think I influenced him . It's wierd, because by the ealry 90's we had grown apart. We had both moved on to Classic Rock, but then something really strange happened: I got into Heavy Metal and he got into Rap. . I still haven't figured that one out.

Terrific thread!
My sister is 3 years older. The albums I remember of hers... "Bread" Best of Bread 1973, "Neil Young" Decade 1977, "Rod Stewart"... and "Elton John" Greatest Hits 1974
She was a slight influence...

I have no older siblings, only younger...
I suppose I can blame two people for my love of music... first being my Dad... who played in an instrumental rock band in the late 50's through the early 60's and we always had music around us because of him, so thank you Dad... and my mothers youngest brother who is around my age, for introducing me to stuff like Alice Cooper, Elton John, Rare Earth and Led Zeppelin...
Its out of control now though....
