Sex & Patriotism – To Die For
Label : Nightmare Records
Review by Bucky for Rock n Roll Universe
Here you are, in a world that is ruled by Rock & Roll. AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Zeppelin, Free, & the Rolling Stones are all being blasted out of every window of every home & then suddenly you are awake… “Strong & Lean, one Bad machine, you know what I mean. This is a Rock n Roll Dream”. Sex & Patriotism is a Kick-ass band from Lansing, MI that came on the scene in 2004.
The quote I used earlier are lyrics from the song “Rock n Roll Dream” off of Sex & Patriotism’s debut album ‘To Die For’ & this CD is “to die for” as from start to finish you are sure to get your ass kicked. The songs are heavily influenced by the aforementioned bands listed & are twisted into their own anthems that will have you throwing your fist in the air.
The CD kicks off with a rocker in the same vein as AC/DC meets Free called “Tearing it Up”. The tune is destined to be a classic with screaming guitars, catchy lyrics, a steady back beat, & powerful vocals by vocalist Chris Steele. “One With the Dogs” features a funky riff blended with a heavy rhythm to create a groove that will keep you moving to the beat. “Eyes Do Lie” & “Crazy World” are two well written songs that are stand out tracks with great hooks. “Brother Beware” & “Dear, Jani” revisits a sound that Guns & Roses brought us with their ‘Appetite for Destruction’ album in 1986 but Sex & Patriotism brings that style & sound up to date with these two tracks. “Fit to be Tied” is a classic cowbell rocker which has a cool rhythm & vibe throughout the song. “Can’t Let Her Be” has a rhythm that would sound right at home on the Cult’s ‘Electric’ album & has a riff that sounds like Rush’s “In the Mood” combined with AC/DC. My favorite track off the album is “Rock n Roll Dream” which is everything a true rock anthem should be. “Here with Me” is the perfect choice for the closing track on the album after “Rock n Roll Dream” leaves you in the dust
It is bands like Sex & Patriotism that keep the world rocking & while their sound may revisit all the classic bands we’ve been fans of since the late 60’s through the 80’s, Sex & Patriotism add their own style to create a fresh sound.
