Dave Davies – Fractured Mindz
Label : Koch Records
Review by Bucky
Dave Davies is back in 2007 with his new solo album ‘Fractured Mindz’ on Koch Records. Fracturing your mind is what Davies is set out to do with this CD as the opening track “This is the Time” seems to take you back to 1986 when bands like Sigue Sigue Sputnik tried to introduce us to the world of synthesized cyber-punk. Once the song kicks in the first two power chords are reminiscent of “Jumping Jack Flash” blended in with the new wave synthesizer sound. The second track sounds like it would fit right at home on any Kinks album complete with a power riff similar to “All Day & All of the Night” or “Destroyer” combined with a biting guitar solo while lyrically attacking the world of politics. On the cool bluesy sounding “Come To the River” Davies shows his spiritual side which continues throughout the CD. “Giving” is another song that stands out both lyrically & musically & is a bit reminiscent of the Kinks mid-70’s era. ”Rock Siva” is a 7 minute modern rocker where Davies answers his own question “Do you believe in Rock & Roll, Believe in your immortal soul”. “The Blessing” is a haunting & strange synthesized instrumental that will fracture your mind which leads into the title track . “Fractured Mindz” is a hypnotic synthesized piece of music that lyrically has your head spinning out of control as Davies searches for answers only to find out the real answer is Love.
This CD is Dave Davies 2nd solo CD since his near fatal stroke in 2004 & although it may have an almost spiritual & strange ambiance about it Davies still pulls off some classic Kinks riffs that will hook you in.
